Maybe you need to retake the OPSEC training. ;)

Don't worry, OPSEC was not compromised. Everyone knows about the pointy things in the holes.

That is 100% the parent’s fault for not raising their child to know better than to just run across a road.

You can blame whoever you want. The bus driver, the kid, the truck driver, the kids parents.......it doesn't matter. That kid would be dead right now if it wasn't for auto e-braking.

It's interesting that you're ok with all the extra offroad nannies your truck came with, but you're not ok this one. You could have bought an SR5 and had a lot less nannies.

Im not okay with them which is why they are disabled and lo and behold, no pedestrians have been harmed by my vehicle. Hell, my back up camera only sees my spare tire and somehow I manage to back in and out of places just fine. Just because something has “features” doesn’t mean they have to be used.

As far as the SR5, it doesn’t have a j shift transfer case.

And as far as the blame game, it’s the parent’s fault. The kid got lucky that time. But his lack of self control and discipline, because mommy and/or daddy coddle him/her, will likely get him in a bind at some point. If that had been me and I had gotten hit and somehow survived, after healing up, I would have been grounded for eternity for doing dumb shit.

There are consequences for everything you do, positive or negative, whether you believe in that or not, it’s a fact. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes applies to everyone and the severity of the consequence directly depends on the stupidity of the action. Sometimes people get lucky. I’ve gotten lucky many times and lived to learn from it.

Sounds like a moot point then.

The auto e-braking will be there and you won't have to use it.

No way to tell from the video whether it was an automated safety system or an alert driver that performed the fast braking and saved that child.

Yeah, but that's the title. Did the recorder of the video investigate in order to know the truth?

I guess you could claim "fake news" on any video these days if you really wanted to.

The fact is this is exactly how auto e-braking is supposed to work.

I didn't say 'fake news'. I'm just looking at it in an unbiased way. I know how auto e-braking is supposed to work. I also know an alert driver could have been to blame. A successful emergency stop doesn't automatically signify e-braking.

This video was recorded by another driver, possibly a dash cam by the looks of it. So I would say there's no way that driver knew the circumstances of the braking event, whether auto or otherwise. Unlikely that there was a conversation afterward.

There are plenty of other reports /studies / personal experiences of auto e-braking saving lives. You don't just have to rely on this one video.

But at the same time they’re using smartphone. If someone is so afraid of technology why do they use internet? Landline is good enough plus newspaper every morning.

There’s a lot of things we may not like that we have to participate in.

It’s not a problem with technology inherently but we’re past the days where every change was (usually) something neat.

I think the mandate is a good thing here but I understand folks not wanting something fallible that could act unexpectedly. (See: Honda phantom braking investigation)

Also there’s the increased cost of repair vs. preventing an accident, other concerns debate.

Anyways, for many the landline and paper isn’t a good enough replacement these days. Job listings, communications, email, etc. all assume internet access and that’s actually a sizable inequality concern. Internet access, cost, accessibility can vary widely.

As a side note I was so disappointed by print Popular Mechanics when I subscribed alongside C&D last year.

That’s actually part of a trend I don’t like, how some services require an app installed on an Android or iOS smartphone and get rid of their web access. (Looking at you Venmo and Lyft to start!)

I always ask them if it works on flip phone otherwise it’s a discrimination. I put my iPhone’s sim into my flip phone on Friday afternoon till Monday morning.
