Help with front diff CV oil seal

Hello,
I am working on my 2002's front diff, replacing the CVs and oil seals.

Here you can see the cap and old oil seal. It doesn't look anything like the new one.

The new oil seal (9031147013) I got seems to fit behind the cover and does not flare out like the old one did.

Here is the new one, and how the new oil seal fits.

Am I missing a part or just too tired to be working and making a dumb mistake?
Is the oil seal meant to be pushed up through that metal cap ring?

Well, not sure if that is right or wrong. I see conflicting part numbers from partsouq.com.

Regardless, nothing I have found shows that metal ring....which makes me think that there was a revision in the seal to eliminate the metal ring?

 

Yeah that is what I am beginning to suspect that it was a change. I do know there are some changes to the 01 and 02 that are missing from earlier versions of the service manuals and such.

 

Not sure what's up with the spoilers, not clicking them.

With that said just buy the seals and replace, super easy

5.5mm depth and should take all of 15-20mins
