I installed my front brakes yesterday.
I got the shims from dealer and I saw that there were slotted and solid shims . I did not use slotted shims as my original ones that came off only had solid shims.
Then after, I was reading that the slotted shims go over the pad then the solid shim on top.

Do I have to redo my shims and add the slotted shim ? is it really necessary?

Shims serve to reduce noise and vibration, but they do not affect the performance of the brake pads themselves. So, that being said, if you start to hear noise, you might consider adding the slotted shims as well. Did you apply grease or some other compound to the shims? Did you apply grease to the sliding contact points on the calipers? Did you re-surface the rotor or install new ones? All of these things contribute to overall brake performance.

    Thanks much...
I have used anti squeal paste dime size on the pad and also spread it over sold shim facing caliper.and on contact edges of pad...

Not sure why Toyota has two shims on each side.....
I also noticed that the new solid shims are thinner than the old solid...
What is the point of double shim..
Was that a stupid design in covid days????

    Thanks again

Revisiting this thread from months ago as I was trying to search for my question. Does anyone like NAPA, AutoZ, O'reilly carry an aftermarket or am I stuck going to Toyo? Or is there a better solution? Google isn't helping much.

My rear driver top shim broke at some point in life and causing "brake pad knock" when rolling a slow speed.

**Clarification as I probably used the wrong word as "shim" but more of a clip. See attached picture too.

    Thanks for the help
