Anybody running a 1.2" lift on Bilstein 6112/5160?

    I'm looking to maintain some rake and run a 1.2" lift in the front, but not sure what to do with the rear on the 6112/5160 set up. I'm thinking 1.2" front and 1" rear? Thoughts, suggestions are much appreciated! Especially coil recommendations to achieve this lift.

    (The reason for this mild 4runner lift is I've ran a 3" OME Suspension lift and 35's on a Tacoma, Kings on another, and while it's a lot of fun it's a bit of a headache. I'm sticking with 265 AT's this go around).

    I ran 1.2 front and stock coil rear. That worked well except for when I loaded up with gear, bike rack, etc.. When I was loaded I felt like I was pointing my headlights at the clouds.

    I added 1-1.5” b12 rear springs. It drove better but had too much rake, even loaded. I bumped front to 1.7” and moved from 5100 to 5160 in rear. Perfection.

    Cost me some money to iterate like that. Learn from me and go straight to the right combination :)

    I did B12 rears at 1.5" with 5160s and B8 fronts with 6100s at 2.7", still has rake but looks a ton better.

    I did this combination in 2022 (full write up details here).

    I used the +1" Bilstein rear spring with the stock spring rate. Did not want a stiff ride all year just to avoid sag when towing our camper a few times per year. I installed air bags in the rear for that purpose.

    Happy with results. Have enjoyed better than stock performance both on and off road since then. Way less body roll and brake dive.

    I too love the look but I’m much more interested in function over form. If you do a lift right, you can have form and function— but the advantages are negligible imo. Especially for most folks off-road usage. These Toyota’s are engineered to near perfection and we, more often than not, negate that legendary reliability when we change cv axle angles, caster, camber, the list goes on and on. Not to mention loss of power & fuel economy (which is fine for off-roading but terrible for long distance / road trips).

    I’d say more so on Tacoma’s, unless you regear. But that opens a whole other can of worms. For this build I’m keeping it simple, functional & reliable.

    Good tires & good lines are all most people really need.

    I mostly agree with this. In my case, I found that it was tough to navigate my typical trails at stock height. I had to be very careful and even then, I’d still catch my skid plates on approach and wished for a little more departure angle at times too. The small lift solved that and I can negotiate these trails with a lot more flexibility.

    I find that having more line choice adds safety. Now I can choose lines that keeps the rig flatter, rather than having to endure steep angles to avoid clearance issues.

    Keep in mind that the pro comes with a 1” lift from factory so a small lift probably doesn’t come with any major downsides, reliability or otherwise.

    23 trd off road premium
    Bilstein 6112 & 5160 with ( B12 1.5 ) springs. 2.5 lift. Dobinson tubular UCA’s. Cooper AT3-XLT 285-70-17. TRD OR Premium wheels
    I did 6112 front with 5160/B12 1.5 rear. I still have a slight rake ( which I don’t like ) rear is too high for my taste. Ride is much improved over stock. Tires are 285’s. F7E789E4-6A4D-471B-B11D-CF052A55E7AB.jpg

    Kinda sort of agree, that's why I'm keeping things to 2" or less and probably only going up to 275's (although I know once I'm there the set after that will want to be 285's. By then I'll be over 100k miles and probably into the why the F not stage...
