Newbie: 2024 trd offroad

Hi,

Thought i would write down some of my newbie purchase notes, + postive and - negative. I feel like my 2024 4runner is like driving a proven old school modern suv.

i wanted to make my purchase for the summer coast to coast trip with my canoe, so waiting was not really an option.

My previous daily is a 2020 Ridgeline. The ease of use is amazing with all the tech, along with the ride. Not an offroader per se, but with added skid plates, it was very capable for this east coaster. I got more than a few odd looks from the Maine Northwood folks when i told them where i explored. The 2024 4runner, while different, really is not missing much of the new tech features that make a daily livable (push start, carplay, door locks, driver assists, ...). Ride is 'rougher', but that is an overused subjective term, but hugely important.

I have owned a fj60, fj80, and a couple of 100 series land cruisers, always brought used. My fav was the fj80, and the size of the 5th gen 4runner is quite similar. Reliability of the 5th gen should not be questioned.

I looked at:

2024 4Runner TRD Pro. +resale, looks. - LOUD, roof rack, +10K more than my offroad premium. I was tempted, really tempted. I would have had to swapped out tires, exhaust, and the roof rack (more $).

2024 4Runner Limited. +AWD, price, seat presets for multiple drivers. - no offroad goodies. 20in rims (ride a bit stiffer?).

200 series LC/LX570. + AWD, -prices are crazy. - The LX570 media system scares me, why i got rid of 100 series lx470. I don't need the size of this anymore. Hard decision, honestly.

Honda Ridgeline Trailsport. +AWD, price, nice drive, appears to meet my needs offroad, just works. - size, lack of character. i would not say it is bland, but there is a huge difference in the ride/feel/look.

Lexus GX550. +AWD, looks awesome. - availability, no test drives, 20K more. This may well be in my future radar.

2024 Land cruiser. +AWD, not much to fault. - availabilty, no test drives, 10-25K more.

-- 2024 Tacoma. +has model/trim to meet my needs. - availability, not test drives with hybrid, 10K? more. I got in a newer one and dare i say I like the 5th gen 4runner interior better? The seats in the offroad seems just a bit higher per wife, she preferred the 4runner. I also wanted to be able to sleep in my daily as needed (not a truck shell guy).

If you have experience in the Maine North Woods I'd be interested in any thoughts or advice. I started a thread in 'northeast' on this forum but no one has responded. I intend to explore through there next month but I'm unsure what roads are public access, if there are fees due, and if renegade camping is allowed or at least tolerated. All the roads I look at on the map show "gated" and there's really no good info that I can find which is weird considering the amount of land up there.
