Just made the splash and traded my 19 Rubicon for the 22 TRD PRO. Mods I think are going to be fairly modest with a Wescott leveling kit, front bumper/winch/lightbar. Can't wait to take her on her first trail.

You will miss that front solid axle very soon. But this truck is great for what it is.

Just remember that you will be lifting front wheels all the time and A-Trac will be your friend. A-Trac is like BLD, slightly more potent infact. but unlike BLD, it has to be engaged manually. Good luck and welcome to the family

Eh...maybe. Each have their advantages and disadvantages - it's all about learning how to wheel within your capabilities

Exactly. If it's a DD the comfort/quiet/reliability is worth the trade off after you get rock crawling out of your system in a jeep.

Welcome, add to the list a viper cut. I think there might be someone here who has done this ;)

Oh trust me, once he realizes he cannot put a foot on a rock like he used to with his Rubicon, a Viper cut is happening.

4Runner is the best jack of all trades out there. Not the best at anything, but can do everything.

I wonder what warranty is void with Viper cut. Washer fluid related, exposed wires of the foglights?

Those exposed wires do make me nervous lol. And my blind spot sensors in the back are also exposed, but I don't really care about them. I got lucky that they even work with my rear steel bumper.

    Gotta question for the knowledgeble:

when I first started looking into 4Runners I was kinda disappointed with the acceleration responsiveness. I read about the pedal commander and a few other aftermarket mods to get a little more pep in her step. When I test drove this TRD Pro it picked up and went much better than the brand new ones I test drove. I assumed someone had installed a pedal commander (or similar) already. Well I finally got around to crawling under the driver side today while installing raptor lights and I don't see anything. Is it possible there is some other mod - computer programming - or otherwise or?

Pic of the Raptor lights installed last night.

You need 4.88, that's the proper way to do things. My 4Runner is a heavy pig, but with 4.88 I can keep up with BMW crossoevers on the highway. I have KDSS so that makes me even more of an a hole on the freeway.

    I didn't even think about re-gearing.

You need to stop wasting your money on stupid Raptor lights and spend it on things that really matter. Now do the regear before you spend all your money on some fancy wheels and lights. And do the Viper cut For heaven's sake!

LOL - I'm a tinkerer I need little projects to keep me busy. I need to check and see if the previous owner didn't already re-gear - looking for explanations for why this 4Runner is much more responsive than the brand new one I drove. I'm not interested in rocks anymore - those get expensive when they end up in places you didn't intend them to be. I'll be happy with mud/sand/gravel/snow :p

Viper cut for the 5G is by far the most visually regressive mod.
