Sometime in the future, I want to get a Prinsu or Westcott roof rack. My thoughts are to build a platform out of a sheet of HDPE or Poly. I have cutting boards that are pretty stout made from HDPE. I know Westcott builds floor inserts for their racks, but trying to save some money.

It would be much easier to stand while loading gear. It could be cut to fit for the entire roof rack or even just a portion.

    Has anyone done this?

In your guys opinion what would the draw backs be?

^Should be fine. In Tacoma circles, HDPE tailgate panel is a very common mod, where it gets stepped on, loaded with dirt bikes, etc.

Be sure to use UV-stabilized HDPE.

I wish I would've thought of that when I had a tacoma. It always killed my knees crawling up there.
