You can lift KDSS, I have. But KDSS stops you from seriously modifying your 4Runner in the future. SR5 is the best trim for that

Both will hold their value well. Get what best suits your needs. Figure out exactly what you want to get out of it.

I needed the 3rd row seat configuration so that’s what drove my decision.

Woulda loved a lunar rock though….(cue homer simpson salivating)

If tomorrow after seeing Jeeps out flex you left and right on the trail, you decide you to breath some life into the dead frontend of your 4Runner, you will be glad you bought an SR5 and saved a bunch of money for this setup.

That beefed up 4Runner is doing better than the Branco Craptor

KDSS does give the frontend some life, but it is not a ton. If you want more, you should avoid KDSS so that you can go with fancy aftermarket suspension. And for that you need to save as much money as possible and SR5 does just that

When I first went to the local dealership, the sales guy asked me what I planned to do with a 4Runner; an astute question. I told him, and he said the SR5P would be just fine, and he was right. So I bought the ORP. I wanted the wheels, the manual shifter, the rear locker (just in case, right?) and other off road goodies, the sunroof…. Planning to keep it a very long time, so why not. You’ll love whichever one you choose.

If you don't offroad, there's no benefit besides looks. Larger tires will make it worse in every metric besides looks and off-road performance.

An actual aggressive AT in the stock size will look noticeably larger than the stock street terrain tires. That's probably enough to give you the look that you want.

Here's my before & after, 265/70/17 General Grabber ATX vs stock Dueler HT's.

Honestly, based on your intended use a SR5 is likely your best choice. If you ever decide to do some wheeling, it will do that too. Mine is a 2023 ORP with fairly common lift and 285/70/17 tires. Maybe this is the look you want or something in between this and stock. It's easy to achieve whatever suits you with an SR5.
Whatever look you're going for there are many options and lots of info as 5th Gen 4Runners have been around for years. They are very easy to modify to your specific tastes.

Here's a better pic of mine:

After market rims & tires, no lift. Pretty much stock size:

I was in the same boat as you when I bought mine. Had FJ Cruiser that was totally stock after having it for 10 years. Plan the same with the 4Runner. I liked the rims on the OR better and the look of the front and rear valences. Was never a fan of the hood scope, but wasn't a deal breaker for me. After pricing SR5 Premium with 4-wheel drive, the OR Premium was only $1500 more. With the rims I liked better and the extra off road gadgets, the OR Premium was a better deal.

May I ask why did you go with the SR5P instead of ORP? Did it come with the moonroof? It is hard to find Premium without moonroof. Thank you

I went with the SR-5 P because i knew i was going to add suspension and larger tires, i do not have a moon roof in mine.

    I didn't think I needed a locker (still don't) and found an SR5-P without a moonroof.
