    I have a 2018 4Runner which is great.
But now I have orders to Germany and last year Germany has said all Key FOBS have to be 400MHz or higher. The 4Runner is 315 MHz.

How do you change the frequency the FOB uses?

Can you just buy a 400MHz FOB and program it for the vehicle?

    Thanks
    Jeff

Too poor to buy anything now
The Fob and the receiver in the 4R would have to operate on the same frequency. (I did not spend the night in a Holiday Inn though)

It's a retroactive rule? If it's an issue I guess just don't use the fob and use the key.

How is Germany going to know? I don't think they are going to re-enlist The Geheime Staatspolizei and start hunting down foreign key fobs.

They won't register the car. It's a common issue with people importing US vehicles. There may be an exception for military.

I think I would check into this prior to moving the car, rather than having to go change fob and receiver frequencies. @100Kclub, are you planning on bringing the 4R back to the states after deployment? What about selling the 4R and using the funds to buy something in Germany? Am I paying for you to ship your 4R there as a US taxpayer?:oldglory::rofl:

Do you register a car in a foreign country if you are on deployment? I guess I assumed you had some sort of military issued plates and not a registration issued by that country.

There is a lot of things I would do for "a broad" but not that much I would do for abroad. Just saying... :D

Rocko is right. they check it when you register the vehicle. I am not sure, but I think they give you German plates.

I am hoping that if I get a FOB that is 400MHz I will be able to pair it.
I thought the 4Runner had a range between 300-415, but I don’t know. I was hoping someone in the thread would be smarter about this than me.

I also considered just using the key that doesn’t have a FOB.
