I’m sure I’m not the only tall person who sits far enough back that the little plastic plate doesn’t extend far enough back when it’s to the left of your head. Not talking about when it’s on the windshield.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I feel your pain brother. Really, I do. We tall fuckers suffer so much. It's an injustice! I have a super duper dark strip of tint across my front windshield to block that Sunrise/Sunset blinding light. I also have the front windows super dark.

If you want something different, you may want to consider one of these "As seen on tv sun visors". I bought one for my mom's little SUV and she loves it.

If you don't have a sunroof, the FJ Cruiser side sun visor may be a viable option: If would look something like this:

    142700d1421372669-fj-cruiser-side-sun-vi_dbfd58c25791c09f3b71edefb2df9eb07306792b.jpg

Install in conjunction with the FJ Cruiser overhead grab handle:

I do have the sunroof, but that’s an interesting feature on the FJ

those smoke colored visors seem to work ok for front windshield…out here there’s a highway that goes straight west so for about 20 min, then sun is under the visor, but above the horizon and it is blinding.

I usually drive north/south though, so it’s the side that annoys me on longer trips…at least I can block it with my hand…can’t really do that in front windshield.

Tint strip across the top of the windshield solves this ;)

Maybe a dark tint strip across the top of your side window, or vertically along the B-pillar?

Funny I talked about this on my 1st 4Runner, having owned 2 FJ's. Still may due this. Just how does having a sun roof effect this? When it's stored does it go into sunroof area? Never checked that out. I never or very seldom open sunroof , in fact I forget I have one :facepalm:

As shown in the T4R.org thread, the headliner is a couple of inches lower in models with sunroof. That prevents the visor from being stowed fully out of the way, eating into the headroom.

Windows are tinted to match OEM rear, still would like better sun blocking i.e. visor. JMHO.:hattip:

You have visor strip tint on your windshield? It's a game changer.

No I don't, the other OP was pointing that out. The point I was making is the door's window. I'm 6'2" so my seat is all the way back & the ext. of the sun visor doesn't ext. enough. I had 2 FJ's & they had the visor W/grab handles. They were great.

Ah, yeah, that does stink. There are janky extenders on Amazon one could add to the visor to cover that gap but it would be nice if they extended farther.

I'm still thinking of adding the FJ's to mine. Was gonna on my last 4Runner just never did.

If you search there is a thread where some of us purchased one used on small aircraft, they are very good and you don’t have to remove the OEM visor.

Is your front windshield tinted? Mine is tinted with 70% to avoid unnecessary interactions with local law enforcement, but it still makes a huge difference with respect to both glare (also works at night) and heat rejection.

I feel for you OP, I think the extension is just long enough for me but it's not wide enough so I find myself futzing with the angle to try to keep the sun out of my peripheral.

As someone who would be subscribed to r/fuckyourheadlights if I was still on Reddit, and also dreaming up of a tinted shade along the left side of my view for night driving, this might be right up my alley - or at least as something I can build on - Thanks!

I read through the first thread about the sun visor mod, and no one ever came to a conclusion or actually installed it on a 5th gen, so the jury is still out. Unless someone knows of another installation writeup.

Are you completely adverse to window tint? Either on the sides or windshield?

I have the door windows tinted W/3m Ceramic to match the OEM on all the rear windows, I have done that on my 2 previous FJ's, Tacoma & last 4Runner.

^Yes. Earlier-year FJs didn't come with side visors, so some eBay sellers piece together the kit for those owners to do the retrofit. Already bought 1/4-20" toggle anchors from Home Depot.

Really because I owned 2008 & 2012 FJ's & Both mine had those & you're saying early yrs didn't come W/ Side visors? What were those early yrs? Toyota produced the FJ in 2006 .So you're claiming the 2006-2007 didn't have those handle/pull down shades? Because my 2008 & 2012 did.o_Ohttps://www.maplewoodtoyota.com/

Thanks for ordering and giving this a try. Please post the install photos.

I had a 13 FJTT and the side visors were much appreciated.
I just measured the opening of the moon roof to the mounting bolt location of my FJ Grab Handles on my T4R and the opening is 6" from mounting bolts.
After you get them installed, If you could measure from the mounting location to the edge of the visor, that would give us an idea if they could even be used on a moon roof T4R.
