I just got these done today. I’m a little disappointed because the service center told me a couple days ago that they would swap mine out for a pair they already had in stock that were black. My contract said they would powder coat the chrome logos, but they just put decals on, so I figured this was some sort of compromise. My car has around 500 miles on it and is a month old. So I went in today, all excited at my luck. They put the roof rails on, but handed me a $226 bill, including 100 for labor (it took all of 15 mins). I probably should have said something, but I just paid for it and left. Still, they look great!

Yes the rails looks good. I watched a video on you tube how to remove them. Not hard to do. I plan on having mine powder coated. Seems a lot what you paid. But they look better black. I don’t know why Toyota made them chrome.

@AZ4RNR I’m not sure on tire size - it’s whatever is standard on the TRD pro.

@RusPro17 I agree! I was surprised at the cost. I didnt think it’d do much good to argue about the price.

    @jgcaps thank you!!

@Kyblack76 Thanks! I’m very happy with it.

That looks great! Too bad the new Pro uses a different rack that has such a high profile. This one looks perfect, and is way more practical for getting under parking garage barriers!

So you can just buy the black roof rails at the dealer? Am I reading that right?

Raptor lined mine when I did the front and rear valances. Imho, the black looks SOOoooooooooo much better. Just the slight change looks way way way better.

All that shiny shit gotta go!!

    Again, just my opinion..

It wouldn't. The time to negotiate pricing is before you agree to have them do the work, not after. Every shop, including dealers, have a minimum job charge plus an hourly rate.

For example, here's my dealer experience. There is an option to roll down all 4 windows by holding the unlock button on your key fob, but it's not activated from the factory. Some dealers will do this for free, since it's a job that can be done in less than five minutes by plugging into the OBD2 port. I asked my local dealer if they'd do it for me during one of my free oil changes. They came back and said they'd forgo the minimum and only bill half an hour for $60. I politely thanked them and said no. Then I bought a cheap Bluetooth OBD dongle for $10 and did it myself.

The black badging can be purchased for under $100 from Nox Lux and simply stick on like stickers (the reason they can't powdercoat the badges is because they're made of plastic, not metal). The roof rack rails can be easily disassembled and painted yourself for the price of a rattle can of Krylon. Or, take them to a powdercoat shop and they'll do it for a LOT less money than the dealership.

OP, I really encourage you to spend more time researching how to do these things yourself for a LOT less money than the dealership is charging you. You can start small with aesthetic changes like blacking out trim, and then build confidence in yourself to start other mods and really make it your own truck. You'll get a sense of pride and know-how by doing things yourself.

You won't feel the need to drive back to the dealer every time you want to change something. Right now they're just rubbing their hands together every time they see you drive up.

There are no factory black rails, only black end caps (Trail/Off-Road) and silver and caps (SR5 and Limited). All factory rails are silver.

My guess is they're not gonna sell black end caps without the rails. Just speculating.

I’m sorry I’m no help. All I know is the dealer swapped the rails out for another pair that was black. It sounded like he had just gotten them “in” and they were at another dealership. They brought them over to put them on my vehicle. They look great and I really recommend blacking out the silver in some manner.

Tory - thanks for the advice. YOu are right in that I should have negotiated the price more firmly. The guy at the service center had told me he was going to try to swap them out for free but that didnt happen. I just assumed he couldnt do it after all. I was still on my new vehicle high so I didnt mind paying the money, especially when I saw how great they looked.

I had mine powder coated shortly after buying the T4R and have been extremely happy with the look. For those who are considering this, the racks aren’t very difficult to remove, you just need a ladder and some hand tools. I don’t have a picture of it, but on the iinside of the tracks there were stickers which showed where to line up the crossbars (if you have them). I just asked the powder coater to etch a line where those marks were and it came out perfect. The guy I used charged $80 for both tracks, but depending on your area it could be up to $200 from what I’ve seen others pay. OP, $226 is more than what you wanted to pay but not unreasonable and I too would have just paid, left and been happy with the new black rails, which look just as awesome on your truck as mine:cheers:

@MRM69 Good looking truck! The black rails look amazing!

I think the dealer may have said mine were powder coated. I drove under a tree, and they got scratched so I”m thinking they were powder coated.

Did the powdercoat scratch off entirely, revealing silver or bare metal underneath? If so, that might be indicative of poor surface prep and application. You should be able to scrape a nail across a good powdercoat with little to no wear.

I figure I would post it here instead of starting a new thread. Since a couple of us have the Pro’s. Question on the tires that come on the Pro’s. Nitto’s. Anyone have any issues with them being very slippery in the rain. Mine have about 5000 miles on them and slide very easy in the rain. I do not like how they slide so easy. Anyone else with the same issue. Thanks.

I drove the Dempster Highway in the Yukon a couple of years ago, and they recommend an extra spare tire because the gravel is so hard on tires. I asked the tire shop in Whitehorse what the best tire is for extreme conditions like that and he said Nitto Grapplers.

Like most, I painted mine last weekend. I bought an extra set of roof rails and painted those and then did a swap. The weather here is starting to go south with quite a bit of moisture so I would rather not take the chance with the holes open. Anyways, I also did the running boards too. Looks great and the rails appear to have disappeared as do the running boards with the right light.

    His name is Stanley.

I used automotive paint for wheels to paint the rails and running boards. I sanded, primed, and painted then did clear coat. All matte finish. It looks great and only took a couple hours to paint and remove and reinstall the roof rails. I taped off the running boards and just covered the T4R with plastic. Emblems have the overlays. No lift.
