A regear will raise RPM's slightly, but not by a ton if you don't overdo it. It seems to me like people generally go too aggressive with a regear. I could see 4.56 for 35's, but most people are doing 4.88 or 5.29.

As far as towing, of course it's going to reduce fuel economy. That's not what I was getting at. Toyota has to engineer things to handle what they're rated for. If the drivetrain can handle towing 5000#, carrying an extra 1000# isn't going to kill it. People are driving 4Runners and Tacos all over the place pushing GVWR, and sometimes over. And yet, we never hear about it causing issues.

Sure, bearings, CV's, and other wear and tear parts are going to have reduced life if they're constantly operating at their limits. But, I can't think of a single engine or transmission failure I've read about that was caused by a little extra weight.

If someone adds 1000# and then proceeds to drive it like a sports car, I could see that leading to a shortened life. But, that's a unique circumstance.

The LC will look close to, or the same in the back as the hybrid 4Runner. Raised trunk area for the battery and a drop-off once the rear seats are tumbled forward.

It’ll be less of a vertical jump though with the seatbacks folded, but not sure if they will stay flat or keep trying to tumble forward.

The third-row - which I assume would look like the GX is probably the best bet but of course it’s paid for in vertical space and no hybrid.

Fair enough - and I agree its a good debate and you make some good points. I hope along the way we helped educate some of those folks complaining without understanding. Have a good trip....

Do you think the ORP will have the same fender flares as the Pro?

Even though they are gloss black (hopefully that changes) I do like the shape of them, makes the 4R look more aggressive.

Rip the dream. Was head over heels for those two colors; Heritage Blue shouldn’t be exclusive to limited, right? I’m not trying to get a black, silver or white lol

I think its safe to look at Tacoma trims to infer 4runner styling. If only the Pro Taco has the gloss black fender flares, they'll be Pro only on the 4R.

If I were to guess, ORP trim will probably have less aggressive black fender flares

Does anyone know if the Trailhunter version will change colors every year like the pro? I'm a sucker for that Everest paint.

I'm guessing that Everest will go to lower trims in the second year

I was thinking and was curious if anyone knew the answer to this, but if the battery pack was under the rear floor and you slept on that regularly, is there any potential health issues from sleeping almost directly on it?

limited models have never had exclusive colors. only trd pro or in this case trail hunter.

but remember, exclusive color for the trd pro (and i am also guessing the trail hunter will also), have always trickled down to the regular trims after a few years

    no.

good example is the battery pack in the 22+ tundra, it sits under the rear seats and has fans that blow into the cab to somewhat cool the pack.

well its not just the epa

have to add cafe, nhtsa and consumer wants. and remember forums are maybe 10% of toyota's buying consumer base. majority of its consumer base is regular people who could care less about we in the forums care about.

    edit:

as i have gotten older, all i care about is what features the limited or platinum have in creature comforts and some better ability. i could give zero concerns about the trd pro or trail hunter.

but at least toyota caters to the select few that want those, but its not the majority of consumer that drive most decisions that the bean counters and corporate care about pushing the bottom line.

    Ruined?

How exactly is doing what is required to comply with federal emissions and fuel economy regulations a disservice to their client base?

Personally, I'm glad they went with forced induction rather than cylinder deactivation.

Also, if this drivetrain ends up being reliable, it's going to be a win/win for everyone.

need to know info: room from the 6th Gen rear seats down to the inside of the rear hatch closed. curious if this design change results in less rear sleeping room in the cargo area compared to Gen 5

Yes, the distance from the seats to the hatch is reduced. At a glance, It looks like the best option might be to build a platform level with the folded (not tumbled) rear seats, or remove the rear seats

i just saw TRD Jon video, seats folded down and they're higher than the level of the rear cargo area... interesting

Thank you, I found it in the reveal video at the 2:15 time mark, funny it is not mentioned in print anywhere.

Do we know what off road features the platinum has? Is it hybrid only? I like the ORP non-hybrid.

    Front to Back:

    1/4: Sequoia Vibes
2/4, 3/4: Suburban, Colorado Silverado ish vibes
    4/4: 100% 4Runner

This is my issue with this 6G. Only the last 25% of the vehicle looks like a 4Runner. Hard to get used to.

Seats tumbled > less available length than any 5th gen configuration.

Seats flat > potentially more than the 2-row 5th gen models in that you can hang over the 2nd row footwell now where previously the seat-bottoms took up space. Probably comparable to the three-row 5th gen but you’ll have to deal with that shelf.

With 6th gen markups and tax and all I think you will see the upper trims go OUT THE DOOR north of 100K. Then add 7% financing and the total cost is effing insane...
