Hey all, new-ish member from up here in Canada eh. Been reading these forums for a while now before pulling the trigger on my new ride, 2024 4runner (obviously) TRD pro. Awesome car, was holding out for the terra and am super glad I got one before the new model year rolls out, no offense but I like a vehicle that touts a big engine, not a big screen. So when I got the opportunity I traded in my 2020 wrangler and couldn't be happier, a little less pep in the 4runner than I'd like, but one of these days I'll fix that.

Anyways I come to my question/ issue:
So I spent the past I don't know, maybe week or so looking top to bottom, inside and out of this vehicle, I checked the manual , and searched through this forum for hours and it's really starting to annoy the hell out of me, in the Jeep it was so easy to find it was ridiculous. So I'm forced to ask, and hopefully someone on here must know, where does Toyota install the rust on these vehicles?? They must hide it somewhere, DAMNIT. Jeep installed it no extra charge right on my doors and hood, what gives fellas, is that an option or something??
Anyways, glad to be here nonetheless but the search continues.

Glad to be here, I searched on here many times for reasons not to get into a 4runner, and I couldn't find anything I didn't think I could live or deal with. Now I'm touring around here see what ideas y'all have to get these things out into the wild what with camping season coming up.

You needn't look any deeper. The entire exterior of your 4R looks like one giant chunk of rust. Is that why you chose the Terra?

Lol, I actually chose terra because IMO it was the only actual "color" Toyota offered for the TRD pro, the others are just shades of the German rainbow!

Welcome Duane, oh the rust will come. Be sure to get the full Kwown or Fluid Film treatment asap before surface rust even starts. I did the Krown treatment as soon as I got mine and so far no rust issues. I'm in Northern Michigan about an hour away from Ontario (North of you near Sault Ste Marie) so I know the damage from rust. Enjoy your new Runner!

 

On the tailgate eh? Any proactive precautions that can be taken? Perhaps some of that clear protective tape?

 

Thank you Rob, definitely appreciate the advice, the vehicle I got was technically a demo, so there was add ons I had no choice over, but some I was good with it. It did come with the shark skin (permanent?) undercoating? I get whatever undercoating for the delears I can get whenever I purchase a new vehicle, they also installed an electronic corrosion device as well, I probably wouldn't have opted for that as well but no choice. Hopefully I'm covered for a while at least. Sault Ste Marie, I plan on taking the 4R up there at some point in the not to Distant future for a little roadtrip!

 

Lots of trails to discover Est and Nord of the Soo. Nord of Thessalon has some fairly remote two trackers/trails.
