After a long conversation with myself, I gotta say...I still love my 2023 more (for now at least, ha!)

If you want to have some real fun, get a tape measure and try to find where Toyota pulled the 9.6" number from your 5th gen (assuming that's what you drive).

Front skid plate is lower, rear diff is higher.

So what I'm saying is, the numbers are kind of bunk to start with.

The Platinum features a full complement of standard luxury equipment, including heated second-row seats, a head-up display and black exterior accents
Platinum models get full-time four-wheel drive with a locking center differential

So if I want full time AWD it looks like only the Limited and the Platinum will offer this?

also note, peak torque is at 1700 rpm, better than our tundra plat @ 2400 rpm.

I totally agree with this. I didn't even like the LC at first glance, and it grew on me after watching a few videos.

I'm liking some things and disliking other things about this redesign. But, I really can't say for sure until I see it in person. Hopefully some of the issues aren't as bad as they appear (backseat legroom, rear seats fold different, ect).

awd usually requires the computers to regulate the brakes and engine throttle to achieve awd, where as 4wd transfers power to the appropriate axle/wheel and includes a 4L where as awd usually doenst have a 4L.

toyota also will disengage awd locking diff above 30 mph where as the 4wd system will stay engaged.

the main diff between the LC250 and the 4R is that the cab on the LC is more upright and higher than the 4R (way more head room). otherwise the main mechanical parts are exactly the same. same engine and same 4wd system and hybrid system.

    I don't know.
I know where he is coming from. It is likely that the vehicle truly looks different in person. I like that the flares make it "wider" in stance, if you see it from the front? But from the side profile it is absolutely a step back, looks wise, than a 5th gen.
There isn't a single car that grew on me in its design, if I didn't like it initially. It is possible that just like 5th gen, 6th gen gets a face lift a few years down the line and then it looks better? For now, given what I have to go by which is YT videos, not having seen it in person, its a disappointing revision.

    Yup.

I've been preaching this for quite awhile, every time someone complains about having to rev the piss out of turbo motors to make power. It's all in the way the turbo is designed.

This should be a huge improvement over the 1GR, as far as towing, and gear hunting on the freeway.

Its bizzare. Why would they design vehicles so close to each other. Maybe it is "survival of the fittest", we will let LC and 4R duke it out and who ever comes on top gets to keep their place in lineup and the other gets obsolete and phased out.

Don’t 5th gen Limiteds all come with locking center diff? So to get the same thing, you have to buy the million dollar platinum? Ouch.

more of the higher end options are standard on the LC than on the 4R. you can get MTS/CRAWL and surround view that is only available on certain trims where as on the LC250 they are standard and incorporate more luxury features along with the technical features in one package.

thats the biggest defining betweeen the models and pricing.

if you want all the bells and whistle in one package get the LC250, if you want either luxury or technical ability, go with the 4R

the limited gets the locking center diff, but you have to get the hybrid version. the standard gas doesnt.

dont quote me on that, i have contradicting info on the center diff availability.

some say it comes with 4wd and some say 4wd and hybrid

    Replying to myself for continuity.

I watched a couple of the first look videos (TFLTruck and TRD Jon).... the improved interior features are growing on my even though I still think the stypling and badging is overdone. I like how the Trailhunter comes with a compressor and trailer brake controller (two aftermarket parts I added to my 23) and Toyo's stock.

And I really think for almost all driving situations the iForce Max is going to be much nicer to live with than the ancient under powered v6. People need to get over this irrational fear of hybrids (for $$%%$ sake NiMH technology is older than me and I'm about to put kids in high school) and this belief that more cylinders is always better. I can remind you guys that you can make a 4 liter I4 if you wanted. You can make a 2 liter v8 if you wanted. Hell you could make a 2L v12.... Displacement being equal more cylinders gives you a smoother running engine, and *may* allow more power as smaller pistons equal lower rotating mass and lower piston speeds allowing higher RPM and more top end power. But that comes at a cost of more parts and complexity as cylinder count goes up. The main reason that in street cars typically cylinder counts go up as displacement goes up is to manage piston speed and inertia increases and allow reasonable rpm ranges without having to use exotic materials etc.

For a real world example look at F1 cars of prior generations that had v8s and v10s smaller than this turbo 4... and back in the early days of the automobile some early brass age cars had I4s bigger than the 1GR v6 (and those things had pistons bigger than coffee cans and as such where limited to really low rpm and power).

I'm on board. They were tasked with a huge objective - don't ruin the 4Runner. They absolutely achieved that goal. Like many, I prefer a naturally aspirated engine, but every automaker is being forced into this. At least the engine design has a few million miles under its belt (I think).

Has anyone seen a palette of available colors? May be too soon for that.

This snowball will never stop but more electronic gizmos = expensive repairs down the line. What happens when that huge screen gets cracked?

It's funny, I bought my 4th Gen b/c I was happy with it and not entranced by the 5th Gen's look or cost and that has continued into the 6th Gen. Paid off, easily to work on and mod, goes anywhere I want to go.

personally i am leaning platinum, since i need the locking center diff for ND winters. my town has way to many stop lights on uphill inclines that always ice over.

the deal breaker will be how much chrome the platinum has compared to the limited. you can option mechanically the limited the same as a platinum. all i would miss is on the limited that is standard on the platinum is :

    1. 2nd row heated seats
    2. hud (not an issue since i wear polarized sunglasses and it defeats the purpose of a hud / our tundra plat has a hud and i can never use it now)

right now the limited shows only chrome/silver on the front valance, roof rails and rear valance. if they follow the difference on the tundra platinum (4R limited) vs the tundra capstone (4R platinum) they added way to much chrome to the capstone.

there is probably more minor improvements over the limited that hasnt been posted until official website config reveal.

BUT DO THEY HAVE AUTO HEADLIGHTS :D I love the new green color! Rear leg room may be a deal breaker with 3 kids I transport to and from school daily though, especially given my daughter is already taller than me and only in 8th grade

    Lol nice.
Just referring to a dedicated off road SUV to compete with Bronco and the Jeep offerings.

Worsening approach and departure angle is not a step forward for the off road community.
I was hoping for better departure angle. Maybe a steel rear bumper from the factory similar to the Tacoma trailhunter?...

Seems like the 4Runner is taking a step toward luxury SUV, and a step away from off road capability.

i kinda like the look mostly, especially the trd pro and trailhunter, that greenish color is great.
but the potential smaller amount of rear legroom is an issue
as is the not fold flat seats.

i am already thinking of trading my 12 TE in for a 24 ORP and may just do that now instead of going all in on the 1st year of the 6th gen.
