Meanwhile, some dealerships can't keep the Tacomas on the lot. I've seen a few Tacomas, and plenty of Tundras on the road.

Where are you located that there's such a huge supply?

Maybe those interested can travel to buy from the area since they're probably offering discounts.

 

0.4” is not virtually identical. It’s literally the definition of not identical.

 

Is it me or do the rear doors seem smaller than the 5th gen? Also is there less legroom?

 

I spotted a stop/start off button (that A with the circular arrow around it labeled OFF) in some footage so it’s here. Likely available for gas only since it’s always been a thing for Toyota hybrids.

I drove a Corolla Cross rental with it, I’d say it was at least much smarter an implementation than a Soul I rented.

 

Where?

I stopped to look at a Tacoma in S/E Wisconsin and they only had 1, and a guy already had an appointment to look at it. The dealerships I've spoken with are selling them as quickly as they show up.

Please post a picture of one of these lots that are lined with 2024 Tacomas. Or, name a dealership so that interested parties can see what's available.

Personally, I have a hard time believing there's a dealership anywhere in this country that's loaded with new Tacomas.

 

Just waking and getting caught up on all the chatter over night and read the official press releases. I haven't gone thought the auto mag reviews yet or the videos from TFL and ToyotaJeff but seems like those are overwhelmingly all positive.


I had a very UGH reaction yesterday to the leaked photos. I think its grown on me a bit after sleeping on it a bit but I still really dislike the styling.

Dislike:
- Front end
- Overall styling is too busy
- Insane amount of badging. Ive never been one to debadge, and I like some tastful badging but this is just off the deep end. Its an industry trend though unfortunately
- 14 in screen tacked on the dash. But again I know its an industry thing they have to compete with


Neutral
- Going to small turbo engine and 8 speed. Nothing wrong with this as long as its done right (and can actually improve both MPG and power to weight)
- NiMH hybrid battery. I wish the whole industry would ditch ancient Ni and LiIon Cobalt and go to LiFePO4 (lithium iron). As safe as Ni and as powerful as lithium with a lifespan measured in decades...
- TSS 3.0 - I think I would like the pseudo self drive cruise mode but I'm worried that the pedestrian detection and predictive driving aids may feel way too intrusive on the road
- Loss of approach/departure angles.. I'm not a serious offroader so I probably wont notice but I get why guys are pissed
- long hood and steep windshield rake. I get why they have to do this for efficiency but I definitely like the look and space of the current gen better
- Loosing the manual Transfer case. This is an emotional thing, but I am not surprised they have to do it because of the new platform and get that the current one is still relying on electronics (ADD) anyway...


Like:
- Still made in Japan
- iForce Max power and better transmission will fix the one major flaw of current gen (not being able to get out of its own way merging on freeway)
- Slight increase in towing is nice but I was hoping for even more
- Trailhunter having 33s stock is certainly an improvement
- Sway bar disconnect is an improvement and closes one gap to Jeep/Bronco
- The new quieter A-TRAC sounds intriguing.... I drove a current gen defender and that thing is dead silent with all the active traction modes running, made me realize how rough a 4R is.



Bottom line: I'm going to give it time. I'm a buy new every 10 years or so guy (went from 03 Acura to 14 Taco to 23 4R) , and usually skip a gen - so I may not serious look at this until the next refresh or 7th gen. Next go around I will be close to early retirement and had considered just keeping the 23 forever and demoting it to weekender vehicle at some point but come 2033 I may decide to trade it... who knows

 

Firstly, am I even talking about the Tacoma or the Tundra here, keyboard warrior.

 

I can't wait to see one in person. I'm curious to see what the actual build quality is like. Will it be as solid as my 5th gen? I do like the rookrack and snorkle.


Did they release what the trd offroad will look like or just the limited, trdpro and trailhunter?

I just checked inventory on the biggest dealership in S/E Wisconsin, and they have 7 on the lot, 1 of which has a sale pending.

I will reserve final judgement until I see one in person and drive one but my impressions thus far are not great:

Weirdly, my wife, who also digs 4Rs and has owned 2 5th gens, really liked it and actually came home from work last night excited and said: "did you see the new 4R, it looks sweet!".

 

I’m surprised the length and width are almost the same. I figured the LandCruiser would be a little bit bigger.

 

These things aren't cheap. Pass them and get the new GX. The new GX is a good truck

No one ever asks the tough questions in these revels, the YouTube influencers who get invited by Toyota to go out and review them is getting old. They are all in a love fest and won't ask Toyota or the engineer tough questions. I can see it has a big iPad screen I don't need more info on that... What have they done to aid in rust prevention, has the needle bearing been fixed... Stuff like this no one ever asks.

As others have stated I to see many tundras and Sequoias sitting on the lots here. I have yet to see a new Tacoma. I think the tgna ordeal is making the product weaker because sacrifices have to be made to scale them on all the same platform. Like the tundra for example it's an SUV with a bed, it just can't compete with the other trucks on the market for doing actual truck work.

 

Toyota applies cavity wax in the frame rails like the newer 5th gens. For 6th gen (if it's like the Taco), Toyota added a series of drain holes along the bottom of the frame rail. Some of the bolt-on rock sliders on the market for the Taco utilize some of those drain holes.

 

00:58 in the video shows the consequence of being on the same "platform" as the Tundra/Sequoia. Toyota kept the cabin the same width as the previous generation to preserve door opening space in the garage, but the tires stick out pretty far despite the massively inset +50mm wheels. This is the Limited trim without the wider Pro/Trailhunter flares:

 

That's kinda cool I guess. Not like doing it manually is that much of a pain.

I sure hope it has pedal adjust and more down travel in the seat adjust. The interior looks awesome.

 

Someone else mentioned this, but I guess we finally have the answer to how the 4Runner and Land Cruiser fit in the lineup.

if you like old school box truck design (me!), go Land Cruiser.

if you like a more modern design, go 4Runner.

Makes sense. Plus the 4Runner fills in the gap in mid $40k range.

Now that we know the styling, rear window and origin, we can start speculating on price.

I’m guessing the TRD Pro and Trailhunter will both be around $60k, maybe hit $65k with options. TRD Off-Road starts at $48k and goes up to ~$60k with options (based on Tacoma option pricing).

A TRD OffRoad in the mid-$50k range means I’d probably choose the Land Cruiser. Which is probably what Toyota expected.

I hate the surge in inflation on vehicle pricing since 2019. Prices always go up, but it seems like we’ve seen a 15-20% jump instead of a 7-10% increase that we’d expect.

Right. That pretty much confirms what I said.

I was replying to a post that said that the 4Runner was lighter than the Tacoma, which has never been the case.

 

Curious what the Platinum trim will look like and when it will be shown.

 

same for me. if it follows the trim layout like the capstone or the limited on the tacoma, i hope it doesnt add more chrome compared to the limited 4runner.

on our tundra platinum it has no chrome, but if you step up to the capstone, they add a crap ton of chrome (4R limited = tundra platinum / 4R platinum = tundra capstone)
