Maybe this is some young hip stupid lingo that doesn't make sense. WTF is coping? What are you coping with? Pain? Anxiety? Fear?

From the dictionary, coped; coping. : to deal with and attempt to overcome problems and difficulties. usually used with with. helping children cope with grief.

The space where his shoe is is definitely much smaller than the 5th gen. That sucks for getting in and out of and trying to load or unload gear from the floor. Why?

Doug's video shows the 2nd row tumbles forward, which probably doesn't leave 6 ft behind it to sleep an adult. On the "upside", the rear seats will be heated on the Platinum trim...

How many months do you think it'll take for paint to rub off around the snorkel? :stirthepot:

Jeep went to plastic skids on the grand cherokee at some point. They started calling them "splash guards". I'm sure it saves weight because they are nothing more than a mud flap.

Not sure when it happened. My '04 overland had 2 solid axles, steels skids, and rock rails from factory. The '14 overland had full independent suspension, splash guards, and 20" wheels

Having more space than a Tacoma is a joke. Everything does. Have you actually been in the back of a 5th gen? Here’s TRD Jon struggling to get his leg out too.

    IMG_4748.png

Look at the difference in the rear door sizes.

All said and done these new 4runners may end up costing you 150k or more over a life time - on a depreciating asset. You will reach a point of diminishing returns and sales will stop. Cars will pile up at the dealerships.

You 6th geners, don't be such lazy fs when you get one of these with the swaybar disconnect. Head to a 4x4 shop and get it on a ramp and show us if it is any good.

WOW! No need to soil your shorts and throw out insults. I was asking a legitimate question and you fired back with an asshat comment or two.

    Swaybar disconnect seems cool.

But ... more things to break and repair in the future?

Also, has anyone worked on a Toyota hybrid engine before? Is it any different than a non-hybrid other than be sure not to shock the shit out of yourself?

It will be interesting to see long-term reviews of this new model. As I stated before, the Lexus GX550 is looking really nice in comparison.

Look how far back the driver's seat is tho. and when he moves to the front you can see the seat is way back. People probably moved it back to make more room to film.

Anyone read everything that TSS 3.0 encompasses? No thanks. Looks like it's standard on all models.

Really wish they didn't have to include the driver assist stuff on newer vehicles. Probably why it took 15 years to release

Last time I assumed it was like the Tacoma I got the COO wrong.

Frankly this nasty discussion going on about the rear legroom is beside the point. The fact that it's debatable when this new generation is 3 inches longer tells me enough. But let's eliminate the height of the reviewer, Doug Demuro has reviewed 3 generations, so judge for yourself how spacious it looks for the same person.

Time linking doesn't work on this site. You'll have to scroll around because it doesn't link to the time I told it to

I think what's robbing space is actually the front seat. The old seats dipped in where your knees would hit. The back of the 6th gen front seats are more upright, and less contoured for the rear passengers sitting behind. I'd expect better considering the size increase.

From what I read, yes. It will also bring you to a stop if you don't respond to the driver alerts, in the interest of safety. It also reads speed limit, stop, do not enter, amongst other signs to give alerts to the driver. Seems annoying at best

Yep, so it can do lane trace assist and steer for you on the highway. As a side benefit, no more leaky steering racks after a few years (design flaw in 4th/5th gen and Tacomas).

    Okay
    I like it.
Minus the handy wheeling features, led bar and armour, I don't like it's visual design better than the 5th gen.

I mean it's 4 fenders with a truck attached to it, jeez

And how the hell do you viper cut that front bumper:p

No. The leaky steering rack is a design flaw in 4th/5th gen 4Runners and 2nd/3rd gen Tacomas.

Maybe the hybrid system required more room under the hood pushing firewall back? or they prioritized front row seat room and comfort because that's who owns the vehicle and many people, myself included, almost never have anyone int he back seats.

The combustion engine is more or less the same. The hybrid drive components is sandwiched between the engine and transmission kinda like a crawlbox.

Dealers nowadays have two-tiered labor rates, $120-ish per hour for normal technician work, and $300-ish per hour for hybrid components diagnostics. The hybrid components do have an 8yr/100k mile warranty with 10yr/150k mile warranty on the battery.

    Interesting stuff. Thanks.

I do all my own maintenance and probably getting the hybrid version so I've been real curious as to the difficulty working on one.

That extra money per hour makes sense but that seems over the top. I would expect nothing less from a dealer tho. :D

Ignore him , he was banned from the Tacoma world 4g because he throws insults around and complains alllll the time
Well you can't just work on a hybrid battery...you need special gloves that need to get tested once a year

Are you sure? Take a look behind the deflector piece on the frame. Most 4th and 5th gens have seepage of varying severity:

Toyota’s sharing much more parts between models now so it seems like that’s just how they engineered their new generation of BOF, solid rear axle SUV’s.

The tumble allows for third-row access (I guess the interior is tight-ish) for the GX here, LC’s in other regions and I guess they just didn’t bother changing the floor and seats between models.
