2025 6th gen 4Runner Official Reveal Thread

toyota’s paint has always been on the shoddy side regardless of model imo. Theres orange peel all over my 5th gen, and my 3rd gen taco. I surely didnt pay 75k for a new tundra, but my poor mans SR has the best quality paint ive seen on any of the toyota vehicles ive owned. I think its pretty hit or miss on what you get, and a good detailer is pretty much necessary these days.

 

I’m continually warming to the idea of increased utility of a hybrid.

I’d imagine that by now people have figured out how to run a house’s entire electrical system a using a prius as the generator lol. Besides for camping use, it would be near to have that level of utility in an SUV.

Does anybody suppose the hybrid battery could be made to directly accept charging from solar, for more electrical capacity on extended off-grid trips?

Does anyone know if the the Tacoma hybrid system run on electrical only for short periods? Or is it always combined? I’m a hybrid noob, I only know that Toyota seems to be doing them well enough for taxi drivers to use them forever.

 

So if you wanted the perfect new 4Runner ...

• Buy new vehicle
• Get the paint detailed and fixed at body shop
• Get protective clear film applied

If I can swap in the ‘optional’ locking center diff, the door panels (finally the designers placed the window controls in a more proper location!), Fox QS3 shocks and IFP I would be all set in my 5th gen. I’m curious about the snorkel, I kinda like the streamlined design of it.

The one thing I’m most curious about is the 2400 watt inverter, running off a 12v system doesn’t make sense because that places a 200A load on the electrical system…unless they changed the alternator output voltage. Whatever it is the load on the engine would be worse than switching on an A/C compressor…MPG would take a big hit IMHO.

 

I like how they kept the grille and lights different compared to the Tacoma, it does look like a 4Runner. Definitely 4th gen vibes like others have said, I think being longer makes it look lower (may also be lower, who knows). I didn't like the 4th gen much when it was for sale, but I think they have aged well (exterior at least).

We all knew what was coming, but it's still underwhelming. More power is good, but I'm sure it comes with more weight, and very limited MPG increases. I'm guessing pricing and production numbers is what will mainly set this aside from the LC250. Kind of like the Rav4, Venza, and Lexus NX.

I'm also curious about cargo space: it's bigger, but probably not much more space (if any) on the inside. Towing increase is nice, at least they didn't just give that to the LC.

 

No manual transmission. Hopes dashed.

So, now the question is, is the new LC worth $10k-$15k more than these? What are the major differences between them other than body style and badges that would make someone justify spending the extra money?

 

Wonder if KDSS is dropped in favor of the SDM?

 

I personally think it looks great and exactly what I was expecting given the new Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia stylings. Sorry 5th Gen Pro owners, you're not at the top of the 4Runner food chain anymore lol....

 

Ugh, somewhat of a letdown. As was mentioned earlier multiple times, front end looks bloated......looks like a slightly smaller Sequoia.......too long, bad approach angles.......weird proportions all around.

Toyota had a chance to redesign this and fit it into a category that wasn't already so crowded, but it appears that like more of the same.

I agree with the sentiment that they had a golden opportunity to make this one a bit smaller and really nail the off-road capabilities that were there for the taking.

I love my '22 and it looks like I'll be keeping it for a long time.

This may get the mid-gen update like the 5 did and that could be an improvement looks wise, but still won't do anything for the dimensions.

The drivetrain is really going to have to be quite spectacular if this wants to get the same respect that the 5th gen does.

AWD and rear locker in one vehicle. Also some people are willing to pay more for the LC name. I think the LC will be a low-volume seller in North America, with most of them going overseas.

Those new Land Cruisers are gonna sell. They completely ruined 4R.

 

If I win the lottery, it would be the Trailhunter, auto, in the color they showed. Or would it be the GX Overland. Hmmmmmm

 

Quality, the Land Cruiser will be made in Japan at Tahara plant where this 4runner should have been made. Instead you'll deal with the worse paint quality of the made in Mexico Tacomas.

Also this one got hit with the ugly stick. The LCP looks way simpler, and is better for it in my opinion.

Completely agree. Not sure what they were thinking releasing the LC within 4Runner buyer's budget.

 

It's a Frankenmonster in the same way that the new Land Cruiser is except this one is ugly. Lazy design and a miss, IMHO. But I suspect Toyota is trying to funnel customers into the Land Cruiser, and this is the "less expensive" yet capable version.

Not too late to buy a '24, and they are being discounted right now off MSRP.

 

It's an assumption. Look how much it shares with the made in Mexico Tacoma vs the Japanese Land cruiser. And we're assuming this is going to cost less than the Land Cruiser, how else would they get that lower price?

 

If I were in the market it would be GX 550 for sure. Still don't like the front end of new LC. From limited pics available, not 6th gen.

My parents pre-ordered the Land Cruiser, and ironically my 97 4runner showing up their new Audi in reliability has a lot to do with that

 

Interesting color choice for the rear bumper on this model which doesn't make sense to me from design perspective.

 

Looks about the way I expected. I prefer the new Land Cruiser appearance, but, tbh I'm waiting for everyone else to buy all the new trucks and review them. I'll consider something new in a couple of years after everyone has hand a chance to shake them out, mod them, etc.

To be fair it does match the front, but an all blacked out option should've been available. Toyota saving on parts I imagine.

 

So I come on here and see this thready got 5 new pages since yesterday.... knew something was up


What a disappointment. From the back angle I kinda like it as its very 5th gen looking.... but the front end with that double decker grill is just way too busy. On first skim I see nothing to make me think buying the second to last year 5th gen was a mistake.

- How did it take 15 years to come up with this?
- Styling on the front, waaaay to busy. I know htats whats in now but...
- I like the 300+ hp iForce Max in theory and have no problem with turbo 4sand 8 speeds... but to think that only translates into a 1k increase in the tow rating? Be interesting to see MPG estimates...
- The interior looking more cramped in spite of a wheelbase increase is dissapointing
- Not surprised that there is no manual transfer lever. Ive said before I could see that coming as they offer more and more "automatic" modes
- I like the idea in theory of the bigger screen, and having a surround view monitor with better resolution that a 1998 point and shoot camera is nice... but I still think the idots at BMW/Mercedes who started this Ipad sticking out of the dash trend deserve to be shot

 

Any guesses as to how many times the TRD models will say 'TRD' ?

I'll say there will be no less than 8 'TRD' badges between interior and exterior.
