I've never looked at this thread before but you've suckered me in and I'll play!!

First, just a snapshot from grad school while working on my MS thesis to show how I got my username:

    317437910_185391570702771_39028570198168_45e33bf623c34fb09d645a87b250da4b96178e78.jpg

Also, a pic of the last GSP we had (We now have a wirehaired pointing griffon). We have had a half dozen GSPs over the years. Milo had an undiagnosed heart condition and passed over the Rainbow Bridge at an age of 7 months, peacefully in his sleep.

I'll post wildlife pics and some dioramas and some firearm pics (still lifes) on future posts!

BTW: some really nice pics on here, especially the ospreys.

Something tells me that if there had been a large population of white people in Japan during WW2 they would have been treated far more brutally than the Americans treated the Japanese living here.

However, many of the Japanese in Manzanar were born here and were American citizens That's why the Nisei soldiers in WWII were the most decorated unit in the US Army!

Nothing you just said has anything to do with what I said. My statement still stands; I suspect that white people in Japan during WW2 would have been treated far more brutally than Japanese were treated in America.

Ok, but nowhere like white people in German held countries were. Polish prisoners, Jews, Russian prisoners, Latvians, Free Masons, Catholic priests (and other denominations), mentally ill. Civilian prisoners in the Philippines were relatively well off, as were British civilians in Singapore. And the Japanese treated Chinese civilians much worse than did the Germans or the US (Witness the Rape of Nanking). Also, white people in Japan were largely from the Axis powers or allies of Japan.

The Injustice of Japanese-American Internment Camps Resonates Strongly to This Day | History| Smithsonian Magazine

"From December 1941 to April 1942 in World War II, Japan conquered much of Southeast Asia and the Pacific region. In doing so, Japan acquired colonies of the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and the United States. Tens of thousands of non-combatant civilians of countries at war with Japan resided in those territories. Japan interned most of the civilians in makeshift camps located throughout the region and in China and Japan. Many of the civilians were interned for more than three years from early 1942 until the end of the war in 1945.[3]

In general, civilian internees of the Japanese were treated less harshly than were prisoners of war (POWs). Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs administered the internee camps while the Ministry of War administered the POW camps. The Japanese left the internal administration of the camps mostly in internee hands, providing only small amounts of food, fuel, and other necessities to the internees. As the fortunes of war turned against Japan, conditions for internees worsened and by the end of the war starvation threatened in many camps.[4] The self-rule, self-sufficiency, and cooperation of the internees permitted the Japanese to control internee camps with a minimum of resources and personnel, amounting at times to only 17 administrators and 8 guards for more than 3,000 internees at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in the Philippines.[5]"

"Over a period of several days, the Japanese occupiers of Manila collected all enemy aliens in Manila and transported them to the University of Santo Tomas, a walled compound 19.5 hectares (48 acres) in size.[4] Thousands of people, mostly Americans and British, staked out living and sleeping quarters for themselves and their families in the buildings of the University. The Japanese mostly let the foreigners fend for themselves except for appointing room monitors and ordering a 7:30 p.m. roll call every night. The Japanese selected a business executive named Earl Carroll as head of the internee government and he selected five, later nine, men he knew to serve as an executive committee.[5] They appointed a British missionary who had lived in Japan, Ernest Stanley, as interpreter. Santo Tomas quickly became a "miniature city." The internees created several committees to manage affairs, including a police force, set up a hospital with the abundant medical personnel available, and began providing morning and evening meals to more than 1,000 internees who did not have food or money to buy it.[6]

Many of the internees built huts (shanties) at Santo Tomas to escape the overcrowded conditions in the dormitories."

Please do not get me wrong: What Japan did during WWII was far worse than what we did or even what the Germans did during the Holocaust. But you are comparing apples and oranges. Japan was a feudal monarchy and the US was supposedly a representative democracy.

    From the University of Hawaii:

"From the invasion of China in 1937 to the end of World War II, the Japanese military regime murdered near 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people, most probably almost 6,000,000 Chinese, Indonesians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Indochinese, among others, including Western prisoners of war. This democide was due to a morally bankrupt political and military strategy, military expediency and custom, and national culture (such as the view that those enemy soldiers who surrender while still able to resist were criminals)."

Anyway, enough on this depressing topic. We are drifting pretty off course!
