    ^Those are "First Edition" rally-style mudflaps. The strap prevents the flap from being sucked into the tire when reversing. Rally cars often have a steel cable holding the flaps up:

    The 4Runner doors feel tinny AF, especially when you close them with the window slightly open. But with the Model 3 you're lucky to get matching interior door panels.

    I sure hope they not true! Or, I hope they at least make it worthy of being called an "FJ" this time around.

    That looks more like a competitor for the Jeep Renegade than anything that deserves to be called an FJ.

    They're not, though. I've slammed the fuck out of mine numerous times and never even ended up with a rattle.

    Being heavy isn't a sign of quality.

    ^The Tacoma's airdam is for corporate average fuel economy. The lesser trims get a massive airdam to compensate for the Pro and Trailhunter being wider, taller, with bigger tires, etc. The airdam takes 5 minutes or so to remove with power tools.

    ^Corporate average fuel economy is quite the boondoggle. If a piece of equipment increased 0.2 mpg, automakers will add it.

    Conversely, if a piece of equipment decreases mpg by .2gal on one vehicle, they’ll add an almost useless air dam to 240,000 other vehicles. That amount of plastic might even negate the environmental impact of what they’re attempting to accomplish in the first place? And everyone will remove the air dam anyway lol.

    That's the funny part about all of this to me. With so much of this stuff, I’m not convinced there’s a logical conclusion.

    (…thinking about where I’m gonna put that air dam when I take it off my 2026)

    I am convinced engineers who actually know this stuff see through it yet are helpless. EPA or pressure from other OEMs makes toyota do these things and engineers at toyota must fall in line, create the air dam. It honestly looks so stupid on a truck.

    They could've used a Tacoma as a stand-in for the photo and we wouldn't be any wiser :laugh: But at least we know there will be sliders, and exposed pinch welds like the Tacoma:

    Exciting. The engine and pricing and looks I guess, are the three most important factors. Pricing we sort of already know: thy potential buyer shall walk into the dealership bent on all fours walking backwards.

    Wonder if they'll work backwards on Tacoma and bring back the regular cab once this frame is chopped down to a 110" wheelbase for 4runner. Doubt it but wouldnt seem to take much

    The frame already exists, 99% chance it is the same frame that sits under the GX550 and LC250.

    True. Just thinking now that there's also a 99% chance the frontend from the front doors forward are the same, it shouldnt take much to make a cab and slap a 6ft bed on it

    112" like the 80-series Land Cruiser ;) But considering how much the Tacoma Xtracab is neutered, not likely to see a regular cab.

    It looks like the Taco has a similar track width to the GX/LC, so I wonder how many parts are going to be interchangeable. It's a little disappointing (but not surprising) to think they're going to make the 4Runner even bigger.

    I wonder if there's any chance it will be a little shorter than the LC, even if just by reducing the overhangs.

    ^It'll probably be the same length as the LC, which is listed on Edmunds as 4" shorter than the GX550.

    It'll be interesting to see which fuel tank the 4R ends up with, 21 gal like the GX550 or 18 gal like the Tacoma and LC.

    More power is known.

    The transmission has more gears, which should also improve overall performance.

    But being serious, those seats strike me as a silly gimmick that will appeal to the same people who spend $10K on skids, bumpers, sliders, winches, and lights on a truck that will never see a trail. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;-)

    ^Suspension seats are pretty much standard on race trucks, so that's probably Toyota's inspiration. This time around Toyota is positioning the Pro as a low-volume halo trim, so expect it to have weird impractical "hardcore" features like the nylon strap door pull on Porsche's GT3 or rear-seat delete in the GR Corolla:
