I installed a GOBI rack on my Gen 5 in 2020 w/6" opening space built into the frame per my order to install Rigid side lights. I have found excellent uses w/ the tubular frame design for easy installs for gear, awnings, axes, shovels, rear ladder etc. however I don't use a roof top tent. Wife insists our 85lb Golden Retriever sleep with us so up and down the ladder isn't happening (!) For me personally, it's been a great purchase......although it took 16 weeks for delivery.

Well it's heavy, and expensive, and took months to ship. The accessory mounts are overpriced and scratch the paint, which will then rust. Also just generally harder to attach things to than tracked aluminum racks. The multi-light option is very limiting, and the wind fairing brackets interfere with the mounting surface. There is no provision for wire routing.

On the other hand, it looks cool and I can stand on it while I'm touching up the rust spots.

I'll endorse this opinion. Solid take.

If they made an aluminum version I'd be all over it. Assuming the bars and mounting were as strong.

Only regret I have is not using it as much as I had hoped. Some of that comes from being busy, some is from me being lazy.

When I have used it, it's been great. Exactly what I wanted (at the time) and works well for me. Quality is top notch - I've had it on for 3-4 years at this point? I inspect occasionally for rust and haven't seen a spec. I will probably need to order a transfer kit at some point to replace the rubber gaskets - I can see some sun damage since I don't park it in the garage.

On the subject of weight and rust - I've gone aluminum on most other mods for weight savings and corrosion resistance. I think a flat rack could suit my use case now that I see how I use it but I checked the weight of RCI full aluminum rack and was surprised to find the weights are the same (unless I missed something). Also, the heights were about the same from what I could tell so no lower profile to possibly help with mgp (I have a stealth no rise). I decided to just keep it for the long haul.

I will agree with the overpriced attachments. I have an OVS 180 I still haven't installed but I think I can make the original brackets work. I've checked on accessory brackets and they are stupid expensive

I did temporarily mount an OVS 180 using the included mounts and U-bolts, but went with the Gobi mounts for (slightly) easier swapping. Would be a lot smarter if the hooks were deep enough to let you hang it during install.

How do you like to gobi mounts? I see you said install was only slightly easier (which I was afraid of).

I bought a set of the smaller mounts from another forum member when I was planning on the Ironman awning but I ended up with the 180 and the brackets don't fit. Was thinking of selling them here and buying the bigger ones if they're worth it.

I wanted something quick release to get the awning on/off quickly and easily but I'm thinking based on my research (and the weight) that nothing is going to make it easy. That's why I was just going to save money and use the original brackets and u-bolts to make it semi permanent

I have the bigger 3x mounts for the full size 180. Carefully spaced so it can clear the solar panel on either side, and switched to stainless carriage bolts to help with one handed install. The benefit was negligible since the nut has to go on the inside, requiring a really specific ratchet. You have to carefully support it while making damn sure it's tightened properly--there's a real chance of getting a false set and having it fall off with this design. I can do it in a few minutes now.

Best I can recall, I got the stock OVS mounts to fit with the u-bolts on the rack crossbars, through the corner gaps in the floor mesh. If I was gonna run that way long term I'd replace them with stainless and add some heat shrink to reduce chafing. The Gobi mounts stick out more, but still not enough to clear the hatch.

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to send PM so I don't completely hijack OP's thread.

    I love mine.

    I don't have any attachments.

I mostly use it for hauling wood from the lumberyard and camping trip overflow storage. Works great!
