Hello! I have a 2023 Limited 4Runner and run Blizzak snow tires on my 20 inch wheels. I'd like to switch to 17 inch wheels for summer driving including some off-roading in Colorado. Considering Open Country AT3 and the TRD wheels. I'm looking for a simple and reliable choice for 17 inch wheels given that I'm pretty new to owning a 4Runner and just getting into off-roading, so not interested in overly customizing the vehicle just yet. Are the TRD wheels worth the cost and a good option? I see endless wheel options through places like Discount Tires, but am feeling overwhelmed with all the options out there and my limited knowledge...even after doing extensive research! TIA.

Honestly I would just grab the TRD 17s since everyone changes them out for bro wheels.

ORP take offs are the cheapest option. Sets can be had for $300-400. That's what I did for my Limited with Wildpeaks. FWIW I also run Blizzaks on my 20" wheels.

Does the tire shop need to reprogram the tpms everytime you change the wheels or can the system save bunch of sensors to the system and you can swap the wheels in garage, the system will identify the tpms automatically?

Newer 4runners-2018 I think-and newer can have 2 sets of TPMS stored. Older, like mine, can only have 1 set stored. So you can either 1) Only have the summer set stored and look at the light during the winter. 2) Have cloneable TPMS sensors installed on 2nd set of tires. These will be cloned to your OEM sensors and so you won't have to reprogram after the first time. Best option. 3) Have the tire shop reprogram your 4R each time they swap out tires.

I change my own tires and I just let the light on during the winter. Actually since I stored them so close to my 4R in the garage, the light only came on after 20-30 min. of driving which wasn't all that often.

I've swapped over tires on my Limited dozens of times when I still lived in CO. I used Blizzaks on the 20" wheels, and had Discount Tire do the swaps. I have never replaced nor needed to re-program the TPMS. Most tire shops these days are careful when dismounting tires, because most vehicles have TPMS. They don't want to have to replace sensors.

Did you have two sets of TPMS?

No. But to clarify, I only had the one set of 20" wheels for a long time (until 2018 IIRC). I probably didn't read the OPs question thoroughly enough. If he were to switch to the 17" wheels in the summer, then yes, the TPMS would have to be programmed if he wanted all 8 wheels to have sensors. But, since the Blizzaks are on only for a very limited amount of time (4ish months), I would use the original TPMS sensors in the 17" wheels and just deal with the light on during the winter with the Blizzaks on the 20" wheels.

Welcome. I would also recommend the ORP wheels. The brushed metal look goes well with the chrome trim on the Limited models.

Look in your local FB Marketplace for other Toyota wheels. I have a '23 Limited as well, your wheel specs are 20x7, +15mm offset, 6x5.5 bolt pattern, 106.1mm center bore. Most Toyota 6-bolt truck/suv wheels should work. I'm running 17x7.5 Sequoia wheels, +30mm offset, 265/70 ATs, with 1" spacers. Use this website to figure out how a different wheel and tire combo compares to the OEM setup: "willtheyfit.com".

The wheel diameter x width, along with the offset, should be stamped on the wheel somewhere, usually on the back. I've found out that most people selling wheels on FBM have no idea what the width, offset, and center bore diameter are, and they only know what the diameter is because of the tires that were either on or used to be on the wheels. Use these two websites to confirm OEM wheel specs from other Toyota vehicles: "autorimshop.com", and "wheel-size.com".

TRD Pro rims w/265/70-17 Toyo OC AT3s
Nice! just bought a 2024 Limited and already picked up my TRD Pro rims and am waiting for my Toyo OC AT3's to arrive. Great minds think alike, eh? I just hope I can get a decent price on my stock 20" tires/rims when I go to sell them.

Be sure and post pics once you've got your rig all setup

@NBH358 I'm in the same… okay similar boat in that I don't want to modify this truck at all… I mean much... yet.

I swapped out the 20s for a set of new TRD wheels and 265/70/17 BFG KO2s. If you like the black wheels, they're pretty easy to find on Facebook Marketplace, etc., as takeoffs. They are incredibly common wheels. I wanted the gloss gunmetal and those are comparatively rare. But there are a bunch of Toyota dealerships selling online only at pretty reasonable prices. I paid $985 including shipping for the four wheels. Oh, and bonus, I sold the 20s with tires for $1,200. Full disclosure: the tires were like new and the wheels had no blemishes.

I know its not Colorado here but I run Toyo AT3s on my pro (part time 4WD) year round and it does find on phowed roads and modest ice/slush. Unless you need to be able to drive though the mountains in situations where they recommend chains you may get away with just using those year round.
