Congo rats on gettin' yer Ota 4run TRD Sport, pt 4 whdr Lookin' fer a brush guard, huh? Well, there's plenty o' options out there so lemme give ya some pointers

1st thangs 1st ya gotta make sure whatever brush guard ya pick fits yer 4 run TRD Sport, pt 4 whdr jus' right Some brands like ARB, Westin, & TrailFX are real good at makin' 'em tough an' snug so keep an eye out fer those

But here's the tricky part - some o' these guards might not fit every kinda 4run TRD Sport, pt 4 whdr out there So read the fine print real careful-like to make sure it's gonna work with yer TRD Sport, pt 4 whdr model Ya don't wanna end up with somethin' that don't fit, right?

When ya checkin' out yer options think 'bout what ya need it for Steel or aluminum guards are gonna be tough as nails perfect for takin' on those rough trails an' protectin' yer front end from branches an' stuff If ya think ya might wanna add lights or a winch later on look fer guards that got spots fer 'em

So there ya have it Take yer time lookin' around find somethin' that fits yer style an' needs an' ya'll be set fer some safe & stylish 4x4 adventures in yer TRD Sport, pt 4 whdr!

Sport with a brush guard. That's a bold move right there.

They look terrible and cause more damage than they prevent in a collision.

Yeah. Ask a somewhat incoherent question, get a somewhat incoherent answer. Makes sense. I didn't realize day drinking was so prevalent here.:toast:

That's the response you get when you feed chat gpt the POs question and ask for an answer in a similar writing style. Sadly it was still easier to understand than the OP.

I'm looking at this one for front
    https://www.carid.com/2024-toyota-4runner-grill-guards/aries-one-piece-grille-guard-5514205364.html

And this guard for the rear
    https://www.carid.com/2024-toyota-4...double-tube-rear-bumper-guard-5514220772.html

I'm considering these models because they don't require cutting my bumper, and promise to bolt right on...
so I can take them off if I hate it

    *slipping into my bacon jacket*
I also intend to Line-X these, have not decided between black or terra to match...

And where can I buy some tail light guards?

just my opinion, but they are only for looks and give no protection. Now if that what youre going for, go for it. I think theyre only held on by 2-3 bolts on each side.

4Runner equivalent to a Jeep angry face. Less functional, in that they increase the damage from a collision.

I have a 2000 4Runner I've had for 20 years...it had a WAAG brush guard on it when I bought it and I like it

I realize in a collision it provides zero protection, but if someone (usually female) bumps my car pulling into a parking space it prevents damage

I like the thought of armored bumpers, and like the look and functionality of them...but skeptical of adding 300 pounds of unsprung weight

Finally, I like the idea of an accessory I can bolt on without modifying the vehicle, so it can be returned to stock configuration if desired

There are certain older body styles of SUV that a brush guard does complement - from a visual standpoint only. I can't recall seeing a 3rd gen with a brush guard but I feel its boxiness and large, squarish headlights would look ok with a brush guard. Same for like an older Montero, or Trooper, Pathfinder, K5, Bronco, etc. In fact those old military diesel K5s look badass with the flat bar stock guards, those may actually serve some purpose though.

    But in the 5th gen....no.

The nickname "damage multiplier" is earned. It's not that these brush guards don't offer as much protection as a steel or aluminum winch bumper. In most cases, they offer less protection than just the original/stock bumper. They can transfer the impact - even very slight impacts – to areas that can't handle it as well – from the bumper to the fender, from the bumper to the grille, from the bumper to the headlight, etc. But yeah, they are a good place to mount lights.

I was thinking of adding an aftermarket bumper like bull or brush guard but now having second thoughts after reading this.

Is there a difference in damage multiplier between brush guard or bull bar or plate bumper or low profile bumper etc. do any of them help in a collision?

Yes. Big difference. Most of those brush guards – the ones we're calling damage multipliers – attach under the bumper, wraparound up, in front of the grille. The mounts for those are primarily designed to simply hold them in place. A winch bumper – that can be a plate bumper or tube bumper – replaces the factory bumper. Having a bull bar or grille guard as part of that bumper absolutely protects the grill headlights, etc. if they're designed to do so.

I agree with @akakaiser that some vehicles look better with brush guards, my 4runner is supposed to arrive May 14th, so I need to spend some time around it to see.
But also, with a brush guard that didn't require modification...if I hated it, I could take it off.

And any damage from more than a bump in that parking lot and a scuff to the plastic bumper, Im going to call insurance anyway and they can fix the whole thing

Since you guys hate brush guards, I went a different direction...
