That’s a really good point. I can adjust the rest of the windows so that *I* don’t smell anything in the front seat area, but a dog in the back might still be getting gassed pretty bad.

The battery goes under the 2nd row seat in the 4th gen Tacoma and displaces where the 3rd row would've been in the Land Cruiser, so there's no need for extra height to accommodate the battery. The new platform is 4" taller and 4" wider because a) fat Americans want more room and b) the platform is shrunk from the Tundra/Sequoia's. There's only so much Toyota could shrink before it became uneconomical. People who see the 4th gen Tacoma in person usually remark how much bigger it is.

The 80-series Land Cruiser was a large vehicle when it came out in the early '90s, leading to the "Land Bruiser" nickname. The 250-series is supposed to be in the midsize segment, but is about 0.2" wider than the 80-series. Toyota tried to hide it in the styling, but you see the width when viewed head-on:

Anything TFR says, is dead accurate based on his sources (from my observation). Never been wrong the past year, as they're very official. Can't elaborate.

Nissan's probably considering it for the fully redesigned Navara/Frontier (rejoin), which was said in the news to be a 2027 model in 2026, but now delayed 2ish years. Think the "new" Frontier was just a stop gap, because the international Navara wasn't up to par.

They've been pressured publicly for a long time on a Xterra reboot, but Japan TPTB have been too broke to make it happen. Guess they're more comfortable again.
We're gonna be either waiting a LONG time until that Xterra is ready. Orrrr, this will hopefully debut before the next Frontier in 2028?

I hope he's discussing it on a sound bite, based on a ready for production 2026/27 model and not a project barely getting started internally. Ain't nobody got time for dat.

Yep. I definitely don't want that for my next 4Runner. Less glass, more metal please.

Hell, a lot of vehicles don't survive Denver hailstorms. I was visiting in Littleton once when a "mild" hailstorm came thru. It looked bad to me but was mild by their standards. No glass broken or dents in cars.

Do windshields generally get broken in these storms?

I remember purchasing a car at a Denver Acura dealer a few years ago from Utah. As I was going to the bank to get a check mailed to them, the salesperson called me to inform me that they didn't park the car inside as instructed and a hail storm just hit. He sent me pictures and it looked like a golf ball. Good thing that I procrastinated for two days on going to the bank.

Is this a yes or no?

I see some cars totaled with broken windshields and some totaled without broken windshields.

How often do these extreme hail storms occur? Every couple of weeks? Every year?

How do people avoid damage to their vehicles' sheet metal? Anything that would break glass will also dent the sheet metal. And, the sheet metal repair will be more expensive and time consuming.

The summer storms are gnarliest in my experience. They are totally intermittent and sometimes confined to only a small area, and usually without much warning. Some people will pull over on the highway under bridges and overpasses to protect their vehicles and partially because they can't see the road.

You want to protect your vehicle? Don't drive when there is any chance of thunderstorms/hail.

A storm from a few years ago destroyed a mall. lt was closed for several months
    https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/ne...ory-hailstorm-may-8-2017-colorado-mills-mall/

car damaging hail can occur every year.

the front range geography produces some of the most intense summer thunderstorms in the continental u.s.

For 10+ years I did business travel the Denver area every 2-6 weeks, plus a bunch of backpacking visits. I encountered bad hail at least once every summer during that time. Fortunately, I was able to find shelter or run away from it. I wouldn't leave a vehicle parked outside there in thunderstorm season if I had a choice.

    Gotcha.

I'm not concerned about it, personally. I have 0 interest in ever living out there, and about the same as much interest in visiting, really.

I guess I was just trying to figure out how a glass roof would be worse than paper thin sheet metal. It really seems like you'd be screwed either way if you got caught in a bad hail storm.

Most of my CO backpacking buddies have pock-marked roofs and hoods. Broken glass seems less common, but it's far from rare.

Part of me loves the efficiency of Toyota only needing to produce 4 letter types for the badge as the U and N appear to be the same but rotated. Fun for lettering nerds like me.

Yes they do. Everything gets shattered. Colorado Mills Mall has a lot of skylights and it took over a year to fix that mall. I wonder what it would be like to own a new sequoia with that glass sunroof & get caught in a storm. The tetons got a crazy hail storm last summer when I was there, no damage to my 4runner, but it was close.

If the new 4runners have a different sunroof, I just wonder will it be on all of them like it is now? You can't find a brand new 5th gen without a sunroof

Good news on the window. But that is an abomination of a screen. And it looks like the TOYOTA lettering is inset so probably not going to be completely removable, but I don't mind that badge. At least the awful 4RunnER badging looks to be easily removed.

Wow, Toyota revealing much more than I thought they would before the official release.

They definitely know their audience with these back window teasers.

Are those chromed roof rack rails? Am I seeing this right?

And yah, that looks like a snorkel on the right. Knew that was coming because the new Tacomas have that option.
