285/70R17 fit on stock TRD PRO?

Sorry I should use the search function, but I need to pull the trigger on this tomorrow.

Will these tires fit without any modifications on completely stock ‘23 TRD PRO?

I read there might be slight rubbing on full lock, but I won’t need to cut any fenders?

Just need confirmation.

IMHO - You will NOT be happy getting 285’s without a small lift.

I have a 2019 Pro and installed the Westcott lift allowing me keep the Fox suspension while gaining another 2-inches in front and 1.5-inches in the rear.

I didn’t need to do any trimming and maintained mud-flaps.

However, I do have slight rubbing at certain angles u fee full lock in reverse.

I can only imagine rubbing would be much worse with no lift.

Lift doesn't make any difference at full compression with IFS.

 

Id go with 275s if you don't plan on any suspension modifications. I just put a set of 275/70/17 Falkens on my 23 Pro the other day and have not experienced any rubbing. 285s will rub without any lift.

 

@smatson thank you that’s exactly what I needed to know. I’ll just go with stock size for now until I get the Wescott lift kit.

 

BTW how do you like the Wescott kit over others?

I’ve watched a few of his videos seems like a nice kit that won’t break the bank and still almost retain stock like performance. I don’t want to mod my TRD Pro too much.

 

You will need it lifted higher. I had to with my 2020 AG 4runner Pro. Had the same Fox shocks.

 

To rephrase my post #4 in this thread...

A lift does not buy you additional clearance for larger tires with independent front suspension. When the lifted suspension is fully compressed, it is in the same position it was before the lift. With 285s, lift or no lift, you will still need to modify fender liners (may already have been done to an extent at port on the Pro) and there is a decent chance you will need a body mount chop.

 

ok seems I should just stick with 275/70r17 or even super safe stock size.

 

I am not trying to dissuade you from going with bigger tires, just pointing out a lift won't solve front end clearance issues on our 4Runners.

Take people telling you it will only rub a little at full lock backing out of the driveway with a grain of salt. Once you stuff the wheel in the well under on and off road driving conditions it's a different story.

Your staying with factory wheels definitely helps as has been noted previously.

 

I really like the Westcott lift - did it on both our Pro’s.

A bit of a stiffer ride but it actually gives me more confidence cornering, maintains the Fox suspension and OEM components, didn’t break the bank and allowed me to run 285’s which was my goal all along.

When doing my research I spoke to the owner of Westcott who was super helpful + had over a decade of engineering experience at Toyota’s TRD division - tough to beat!

 

Here was my 2020 Pro with Fox shocks but with Eibach springs. No rubbing at full turn. Also has to do with your alignment.

Between 265’s and 275’s not enough difference for the cost.

 

It will rub. Don't listen to anything else. You'll need to cut some stuff.

Where are your mud flaps? What else did you cut to make it not rub?

Probably still rubs on full wheel lock and articulation.

 

Personal opinion, 275's are kinda pointless. We're talking about barely over half an inch taller and less than half an inch wider over OEM size.

Why spend money on that?

 

Get the westcott lift and 285s at the same time. Problem solved. I lifted my 19pro and put 285s on at the same time. Transforms the truck!

 

I’ve done a lot of reading on the topic, and I have a 2” lift front and 1.5” back (ORP not Pro) and I will be sticking to stock. I want to keep my car safe, and it’s already plenty capable. The extra 0.3” width and less than that height is, grasping at straws. I’m talking about 275s, 285s I never even considered.

 

Keep in mind, the options for a C-Rated 275/70/17 are VERY limited. If you're going up to 285s, stick with 265s... C-Rated.

 

This was when I had my 20 AG Pro. It had the Eibach springs and with the oem mudflaps stick out to far so that pic was taken before I added the Rockbloz mudflaps which are tight to the body. There was no running at all even at full lock.
Now to compare my 23 Pro has the westcott lift which lifts the front higher then the Eibach springs but mudflaps are removed. Only at full lock get body mount rub on passenger side. I have not ordered the Rockbloz flaps because it looks like it may rub them a bit just slightly. But I like the flaps on so I plan on getting a set and try. Going to probably do another alignment in about 2 months and see if we can get anymore caster. As of now I’m not changing my UCA’s.

 

I’m loving my 285 look.

285s with 2” front 6112 and 1.5 T13 rear coil and 5100s. No trimming, no BMC and i have all of my mudflaps. Its planted to the road and still knocks down 20+ mpg on extended trips.

 

Imo i would never put a spacer on anything. Get a real lift kit using springs correct to your applications

 

any rubbing forward or reverse on full lock and on steep inclines or declines? I think that’s where it will matter most.

 

nothing going fwd, and just a slight rub full lock in reverse. Nothing im worried about or caused damage.
