I just got my 2023 sr5 4runner and Im planning to upgrade wheels and tires. Im getting a good deal with wheels + tires. From what i have read online, stock wheels have a +12mm offset, would there be any rubbing if i go to a 0 offset wheel and some 265/70r17 tires?

What wheel width? This will play a factor in the equation as well.

I went with 8.5" wide x 0 offset wheels. Stock size Falken Wildpeaks AT3 C load rating. Very minimal rub on front left mudflap and very rarely. It only happens at full lock on an incline. Not enough for me to do any mods so everything surrounding the wheel is still in stock form.

I have a 1" front level only spacer though.

    2015 SR5P.

Thanks for the replies, I went all in an got 8.5 wheels with 0 offset and some 265/70 tires and I got no rub! It is super close to the front mudflap when in full lock but no rubb. I ll probably need to do the fender liner mod when airing down tires when offroading tho

    All-

Instead of starting a new thread, I'd like to piggy back here.

I've got a 2023 Off road premium, and also want to get new wheels and tires. I live in the mountains and it's all off road, especially during hunting season. The all seasons it came with will not cut it here.

I want a wider stance, and was looking to go to 0 offset as well. NO spacers for me. I don't plan to go bigger with the tire, 265 is fine, just need all terrains. I have zero mods, and don't plan on any. Just wheels and tires, with a wider stance gained via offset.

    My question:

How far of an negative offset can I go before rubbing? It is my understanding my OEM wheels are 17x7.5" with +15mm offset. I can only find 8.5" wide rims.

*I have used the search function extensively, and seen a bunch of info, and even arguing, but no answer to my question.

    Thanks Gents

Not sure on actual limits but if it helps I’m running currently TRD pro wheels (+5 offset I believe?) with 275/70/17 and only had a tiny tiny rub on the mud flap.

Thanks for the reply. Would you mind sharing a from front front looking down the side so I can see the stance? The dealer (of course) recommended I go with the pro wheels, and I'm not sure if 11mm is substantial enough to "offset" the cost...haha

I had rubbing with -6 offset and stock size KO2's. But, it probably could have been solved with a fender liner mod and/or some minor trimming.

    All-thank you

I’ve got it narrowed down to either 0 or maybe -6

Dont see many options for -6 wheels. Any suggestions? Best place to purchase/look?
    Thanks in advance!

    just adding on here…

my 2018 with 5100’s on the .85” setting still rub on full wheel lock in reverse with 17x 8’s and zero offset with 265 wilderness peak’s

hoping ko2’s fix that someday. those falkens seem to have a really wide tread foot print.

I'm new here and trying to find a thread on offset. I ordered wheels and tires. They came with a 0mm offset and won't even go on. The caliper hits and they won't go on. The company I ordered them from have no idea why. Can someone please help on why they won't go on. I sent them back.

You probably have a backspacing issue on the new wheels.

    Stock wheel backspacing is 4.5".

Where do you measure the "4.5" inches from?

The wheels you purchased should give you the backspacing specs but here's an illustration to show how to measure.

seems like they got the wrong wheel for a 4r or your year

no way a zero offset does that, or any offset for that matter.

you go to some shady tire place with smooth brain employees?

i ended up with new toyo open country r/t trails and no more fender rub

Method 705's? My current debate is those or the FN wheels Overlander Spec A (which are -6mm) But I want to go 275's (probably Toyo AT3's) and have to stay under the fenders (stupid laws here).

correct 705’s 17x8.5” with zero offset

-6 will have a little poke. my previous 4r had some negative offset and they hung out a bit more

the previous owner had to remove all the inner fender plastic to keep the rub away. i wasnt about to take that route with this one. i really dislike hosing all the mud off the body and suspension.

Thanks. Guessing I go with 705's before these tires are worn so I can see if I think I can get 275's without poke since it sounds like the combination of the Fn Wheels and 275's would poke more than I can get away with here.

I am looking at some TRD pro replicas and they are 17 X 9 with zero offset. Will the wider wheel make rubbing more of an issue? Considering painting my TRD ORP wheels and 1.25 spacers instead.

you’ll get rub, depending on tire.

my wildpeaks 265’s rubbed but the new toyo’s dont and that was with the bilstiens up at .85”
