I am throwing an Eaton in the front tomorrow. I will be engaging it as a last resort, ideally with straight wheels. Can't trust the tiny front diffs of our trucks.

I did a similar trail, A-Trac and KO2s at 15 psi did the job with no complaints. Toyota ships 4Runners with garbage tires

I've heard from a few people now that a front locker increases the likelyhood of breaking CV's.
Will the locker just be a "break CV now" button?

My eventual plan is to regear. I'd like to have on board air as well.
Was originally going to go with the air locker as I've noticed the factory E lockers struggles to engage and disengage quickly.
Any particular reason you're going with the E-locker @Yotaholic

I don't want to deal with the complexity of the air locker.

Interesting. I may have to look into Eaton a little bit more! I like simplicity

I had a JK Rubicon that I absolutely abused on the rocks. Zero mechanical issues. I will avoid using the front locker on my 4Runner as much as I can, I saw the front differential of this thing and it looked sad.

If I just had to have a front locker, I would carry extra CV axles and tools.

Some good pics, Keep these pictures updated on the status as they move along.

Did you end up getting them to wire it up also? i remember you saying they did not originally want to wire it entirely.

Good deal, Nice that they are getting it all wrapped up in one shot to ensure all is good-to-go.

I buddy that worked at Dynatrac said they have had a lot of air leak issues with ARBs.

Did the shop weld a doubler reinforcement to the frame crossmember while the diff was out?

4.88 feels amazing. Slight gas and truck moves. It is breakin period so I won't get carried away.

The diff mount bolt goes through a single thin wall of the frame crossmember. In heavily loaded situations the diff mount can rip out from the frame. It's customary to weld a doubler plate from the top to reinforce the area, like so:

    upload_2024-3-20_21-40-23.png

If the diff is already in, this fabrication shop sells a hat-shaped bushing. Remove the diff mount bolt, insert bushing from the bottom, reinstall the bolt, and weld around the perimeter:

Cool, I am in Cobblestone. do you have 4.88 as well? If so I am curious how high the rpm's get with cruising up i70 same speed as traffic, which is usually about 80mph

LOL yea I bet they will be nice once they are broken in though! Lockers and gears is a big investment for sure. It is something I want but If I do that I need to go all in and do gusseted spindles, 35's etc. Supercharger will have to get me by for now.
