    Did something dumb and need advice. I have a bad front driver's side wheel bearing. The NAPA part I installed in 2019 (85K miles ago) has a limited lifetime warranty but I priced OEM bearings and bought one, somehow forgetting that Toyota doesn't sell the bearing and hub assembly, just the bearing. As I said, dumb. Now the dealer wants a 35% restocking fee, which stings on a $185 part. As I see it, I can:
    • Pay the ~$60 restocking fee and count it as a stupid tax, then get a NAPA warranty replacement;
    • Try to sell the bearing for enough to lose less than the ~$60 fee (it's currently listed, no bites at $175) and get a NAPA replacement; or
    • Try to find someone to press out the current bearing from the NAPA hub and press in the new one.
    Am I missing any options? As I understand the process, it has to be done right or you end up junking both the hub and bearing so I won't be going DIY with anything other than un- and re-installing the assembly. TIA.

    Return the dealer bearing and eat the $60. By the time you paid to get the hub pressed out and purchased a new outer wheel seal, you're spending at least $60.

    Also, never do any business with said dealer again. Shame them on the forums for a ridiculous restock fee on a non-special order or electrical item.

    I ended up contacting the parts manager again and explaining that I would exchange the bearing for the assembly I need but Toyota doesn’t offer it. He agreed to drop the restocking fee to 15%. Returned it and all is good.
