Question/concern about an angle on bumper lightbar

    Hello all,

    I'm installing a 32" Roadshock lightbar into a CaliRaised Stealth bumper and have an issue with how the light bar is not setting parallel to the face of the bumper. The end caps of the lightbar are too thick to allow full angle adjustment. Does that matter? It might be about 3/16" out, angled down.

    Grinding down the bolt cap might be in order, but I'd rather not. But I also don't want to have to get into it later either...

    **edit** - to clarify, I'm concerned with the effectiveness of the light itself, if it were pointed down a little.

    Well i like the slight angle down, as mine are all this way. Roads are not flat 100% of the time so it will be off anyway.

    I had to “roughly” but decent enough cut my hefty fabs fog light holes for my diodes

    could have gone flush mount(still would require cutting) but wouldn’t be able to aim correctly n since my lights are for road use, had to be done

    technically your kinda creating your own “cut-off”

    maybe try playing with the mounting brackets for the bar

    I could have cut n drilled them/fab a lil bit to make them work but my situation in the end wouldn’t allow it

    give it some thought

    Are y'all talking about my original post? I don't see how I said the opposite of down... ? I said "angled down" and then "pointed down.."

    Just trying to determine if lights pointed down by 1/8" to 3/16" would matter in the end.

    Yes original post with schematic/photo.

    Your schematic/photo clearly shows its angled up, but your wording (which i took as what you were asking) clearly states angled down.

    1/8" to 3/16 down is fine, actually good so not to over project. Up or side to side could be a problem.

    lift, wheels, tires, stuff.....
    Just install it and set it where you like it. I have this and i put in a 30'' light bar also. I adjusted it to my liking. Also knowing that i wasn't going to use it "highway driving" so i'm not blinding anyone. But i do use it at the wee hours on the way to work to look for deer.

    The confusion arises because up or down depends on which direction you assume is forward. If forward is to the right, the light is pointing up. If forward is to the left, it's pointing down. So the question is, is the light in front of the bumper or behind it?

    The rear of the light bar is angled down towards the bumper. The light stream itself is angled up towards oncoming traffic and towards the where the driver sees.

    So, hard to say it’s angled down. It depends on where you’re standing.

    same with left vs right.

    I'm talking about the drawing. If forward is left on the drawing, the drawing illustrates it as pointing down. If foward is right on the drawing, it's pointing up.

    I guess so. But that makes it feel like the light bar is inside the bumper. Maybe it is actually…. - in which case yes, the road ahead is to the left. And the light is pointing down.

    Ha! I see now. Yeah, I should have been more clear. I thought "Face of the bumper" would be enough. The graphic is a cross section of the end. So the truck is facing left and we're looking at it from the side. And yes, the light is inside the bumper.

    Suffice it all to say, I'm going to leave it as is, facing down a little, and see what happens. With the knowledge that it'll be a pain to adjust later.

    Facing down a little seems logical no? Or you’d blind people? I know this is not for on road. But nonetheless. At the speeds one goes off roading and available darkness it seems to be the most important line in sight are the next few feet no? I could be wrong. Report at this angle how far it lights up!

    so you can see how they are “set” differently…I’m playing round n finalizing 723 “what did you do to your 5th gen today”s so they’re outta whack BUT you can see how if I adjust the
    1. Aim
    2. Position on the mounting tab INSIDE(lol) bumper
    3. N overall direction leftrightupdown…

    how it clears, protrudes, or tucks in

    Again
    I had to cut(die grinder) to accumulate for these DDss3

    but aiming n adjusting is super easy
    They’re protected
    No waste of light
    N it’s 4runner soooo why not

    EDIT
    when i contacted hefty bout it
    They said they were used to using like Baja or rigid for example n hadn’t run into my problem

    I was gonna cut already n that’s what they suggested

    No expert…at all

    but the pic is taken from left side
    No “wall” to measure cutoff/spread
    Still somewhat light outside(beautiful area by the way)

    kinda depends on how you ended up mounting n playing with the angle

    it does appear to be spot/flood combo

    if anything…maybe facing down a tad

    For me that throw is way too short unless you're on an uphill. Light bars are largely illegal except as driving lights so you should aim them somewhere between totally flat and your high beams. Aside from pure spot lights that should be relatively flat, I set the hot spot to slightly higher than my high beams but however much lower the lights are. So if the lights are a foot below the headlights, I'll back up 20 yards, flick on the high beams, and try to get the hot spot a little less than foot below the high beam on a building or wall. If you have no other lights you may want to go slightly higher... I have roof lights that fill in for me.

    Really the best way is a seat of pants test... get it close and go for a drive late at night to see how the pattern is.
