I just bought a SR5 that came with just one key fob. Can anyone recommend the best source of obtaining an additional fob at a reasonable price?

Before buying a new fob, double-check the service campaign 23TJ01 - Second Key Delivery Program. You can just call your dealer service department and have them check with the vin.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I think that only applies to if you bought a new vehicle and it only came with 1 key fob. If you bought it used, and it only came with 1 key fob it may not apply. Because it's not the manufacturer's fault you only got one key fob, that's on the dealership or the guy who traded in the vehicle.

I know that on my last two vehicles, I forgot to give the dealerships both fob's. I meant to, and even planned to, but when I got home, i still had one.

I would buy the needed replacement fob directly from Toyota, then a local locksmith that does these can knock out the programing quickly. I tried the El Cheapo Walmart route twice, big waste of time and extra expense for the locksmith

If the service campaign was not fulfilled before his ownership, then he would still be able to get the key fob. A simple call to the dealer service department with the vin number would verify whether it was done or not. Also, you can check on the Toyota Owner's website to see if it has been done or if there is an open service campaign.

My 23 SR5P came with 1 fob. Got the dealer to throw in an extra fob (oem) then got the dealership to program and cut the key which was around $175. Contacted Toyota told them the situation and had to send them proof of ownership and the receipt from the dealer and they agreed to reimburse me the cost!
