Sir, you are everyone’s hero. We are all so impressed by how you have modified your 4Runner to be so much better than anything the rest of us have, especially those of us with Pros. There is more to life than spending less money and doing difficult, technical off-roading. We’ve heard your story and seen your pictures (poorly composed and not very clear) over and over again. I bet you got a great deal on whatever you use to take those pictures too.

An SR5 on KO2s and Viper Cut will go places that the Pro can only dream of.

Are you comparing factory made trd pro vs modified trd orp? that makes no sense at all. I added 1.6 inch of GC to my pro and have skid plates all over too. viper cut, stealth bumper, winch. front diff lock I had installed right after I pulled out of the dealership lot. Transmission cooler, transmission cooler thermostat, csf bulky radiator. I even have splash guards in my wheel bays.... what should I say now?

So why the hell did you buy a Pro if you were doing all that? TRD Pro is a scam, it is not like Rubicon that means a damn thing.

Are you telling me your modified TRD Pro is better than my modified TRD off-road? Do you really believe that?

So the baby Pro Fox shocks are better than the Australian BP-51?

you did all that after paying what, mid50k to 60k for a pro? Sounds like for you, the Pro was pretty weak sauce if you felt the need to add all these aftermarket items.

I venture to guess a lot of Pro buyers see "Fox" and automatically think "Oh Fox, that's as good as it gets.".

They probably have no idea what firms like Carli and Accutune do, who exist because OEM Fox stuff are all built to a price named by the car makers, and the manufacturers typically just really need the "Fox" sticker and name to round out a "package".

He didn't, he built an ORP to his specification that the factory cannot possible come close to offer, and probably still came under the sticker of a Pro.

    Just a minor question,
TRD Pro are not really Toyota Tahara factory made right? All those wheels, tires, skid plates, roof rack, etc gets added after it lands in USA. Not much difference than aftermarket 4x4shop modifying a 4Runner except you get Toyota warranty vs aftermarket shop give you manufacturer warranty of the parts you install?

The climate control, dusk sensing headlights and seats probably had to be installed at the factory since they are not available on other non-Limited trims. So they most likely started out as a stand alone build different than OR/SR5/TRDSport trims.

Much closer to Limited but get less features. A mix of TRD ORP + Limited.

That's funny because I thought about that too and at one point was hypothesizing Pro and Limited may start out as the same base build. Since Limited uses a full time 4WD with no locker, and the 4wd control is different, perhaps they start out on the assembly line the same way but diverge once installation of 4wd driveline and bumpers take place. Maybe leather seats are another commonality too.

So Pro is like TRD Sport in the sense that it's a parts bin special to use some parts of the Limited to target a different market segment and charge a lot of money for the package

No sir. TRD Pro don't get leather seats. TRD Pro has same seats as SR5P & TRD ORP. Only Limited get leather seats.

Gotya, thanks, was not sure about that.

So there you go, I think our theory passes the small test at least, "Pro" is a non-KDSS OR with Limited's dashboard, Fox branded shocks, and some other embossed parts added at the port.

    Right.

I've beaten the crap out of my BP 51s, 20,000 hard miles. My modified 4Runner is as good as the TRD Pro when it comes to build quality

I would have wasted money on wheels too if I had bought the Pro. I have been told here that Pro wheels can't take 285/75s.

I can list more that is available in Limited but not in TRD Pro, but I don't want to sound like a Pro hater.

I am not a Pro hater. I just have problem with marketing the Pro as the offroading pro. It is not. An extra locker and some bigger tires and a 4.10 would change my mind, but that's not happening.

I can list lots that’s standard on the Pro but not available on the ORP but I’m not an insecure attention seeking man child in need of constant approval that my build to suit my needs is the most amazing 4Runner ever and what everyone else should aim for despite their different wants and needs. You modified ORP guys (one in particular) really need to get over yourselves.

Okay personal insults now. Listen, we are talking pure off-roading criteria, the so-called Pro. Pro in what? Pro in music? So that makes the TRD Pro special, the sound system?

I have a problem with you marketing YOUR modified lower trim level as the ultimate 4Runner for every purpose. This Toyota marketing that so offends you is damn near non-existent, while you repeat your claims repeatedly every single day in any thread you can find regardless of topic.
