80% Off Road Rear Bumper Bash Bar

I've been debating getting this kit for a while and finally pulled the trigger today.
Wanted to keep the factory hitch and spare tire location for now.

This should increase clearance and more importantly keep me from ripping the rear bumper off constantly.

Excited to get this installed.
Anyone have this or something similar?

Mine is going on in early April. Nick @80% is welding it up and installing mine w/ side hoops, along with a tire swing at their shop. It's a great kit. Several friends of mine are running it, including Ian (who you posted pics of.) 9 bar attachments to the frame. It's bulletproof, fairly light and high clearance. Everyone I know who has it swears by it.

I found them online last year, and had a local shop do an almost exact clone of it. So close, in fact, that I'm almost convinced that my shop bought that bumper kit and fab'd-it-up and said they did all the bends.

I was just wheeling the same obstacle last weekend after the bumper install and cleared it with ease! Took the same line, but don’t have video of the new run.

I’ve got images of mine installed. (below)

1. You will find that your receiver still drags if hitting an obstacle center on.
2. I believe you can unbolt and invert the receiver and reinstall it to get more clearance. I had my fab shop make a new receiver welded into the cross member. That gave me 6 inches more clearance even in the center.
3. Your spare tire and exhaust are now what limit your departure, you can improve this greatly by storing the spare in the rig for wheeling, or get the tire swing out. But you may end up like me and smash the exhaust unless you do an exhaust cut and side exit
4. I had recovery points installed.
   
5. GET the Hoops. I did they are essential. they will keep that plastic from flopping around. You will find that they push in on the plastic just a little.

You’re gonna love it. If you’ve ever ripped off the old bumper you’ll wish you’d done it sooner. Crazy strong and matches up to most sliders perfectly.

 

I like it. It blends in real well with a stock.....ish appearance.

 

Nice....I just had someone hit my rig while parked on the street...small scape of the taillights and damage to rear corner bumper. This would've helped save my bumper.

in order to not tear the bumper off roading, one needs to tear the bumper in the garage with a knife, make holes in it, etc?

Fair point. I looked at a ton of bumper, actually several tons as they are so heavy, before I made my decision.
The artisan plate bumpers are in the stratosphere price wise at several thousand $$.
They are ultra heavy at 150 or more pounds.
And as I was looking half the companies went belly up while holding customer funds waiting on lead times.

For strength to weight nothing beats DOM round tube. And the price was right too. It offered Much better clearance than anything except the NguyenWorks with the frame crossmember removal. And all but the $3000 to 5000 plate bumpers require irreversible cutting to the original plastic bumper cover anyway.
Finally I had already damaged the rear plastic several times and there are only so many times you can zip tie your bumper back to the fender liner before it is Swiss cheese.
I gained over 6 inches departure clearance at the hitch. Now ground to receiver center is 24”, stock is 17” ish. Yet my bike rack still lets the tailgate open with bikes attached.

My bumper was around $750 installed. I could purchase a brand new color matched bumper cover for less than the price of any of the no cut to plastic options and just cut steel tube off and put the new cover on in minutes.

Its a trade off between appearance and performance that met my exact needs. That’s the beauty of enthusiast autos, our customizations meet our individual needs and make us unique.

 

I am planning to chop the exhaust right after the rear axle. Hopefully the exhaust fumes won't collect too badly. (I'd go with the Carven dump kit but I don't want a loud exhaust system.)
I'm also planning to keep my 41.22 hitch slider in place to help protect the spare tire. It is also a solid point for a soft shackle to hook up to when needed.

I have two concerns that I am taking the "cross that bridge when I get there" approach to. Maybe you can share some ideas.
Concerns:
1. Mud flaps/ mud collection under the rig. I was planning to modify my Ark mudflap deletes to fill the gaps here. You see any issues with that approach? Or have any better ideas?
2. I am slightly concerned about the trailer electrical hookup hanging too low. Do you know of a solution for this? I may just have to modify the bracket to locate this a little higher.

I love that. So much more elegant than my solution to just unbolt disconnect, and toss it in a box in the garage.

@1SilverRunner - for the mud flaps, I don't have a better solution, unfortunately. I've been running ZipTies that are feeling pretty janky. (had to because i ripped out the holes when i ripped the bumper off while wheeling. I might check out those Ark Mudflap Deletes as a way to make the filler.

Can't tell from the photos, and/or the details listed - does this use existing threaded holes in the frame for mounting?

 

I bucked my exhaust off with a 12V Milwaukee Sawzall in the dark, headlamp on, laying on concrete in Visitor parking. It's tough metal lol. Ppl surely thought I I was stealing a catalytic converter

1 . After doing mud flap delete, literally filled gaps back there with black expanding foam that hardens (passenger side). It was genius
2 . Yeah I bet you could modify that bracket, it's only 2 bolts too I think - I took it off and treated the area for rust

 

Been trying to find a decent rear bumper. Don’t need or want a swing out and the other high clearance I have seen are ugly IMO. Looks like the extra chrome or body colored strip on the rear bumper of Limited/Nightshade/Sport stay with this though. @Harringbr99 when you installed, did it look like there was enough room to add another identical bar above the existing and delete the extra bumper trim piece? Probably require a lot of extra welding to add a second bar 2-3” above the original but I want it gone and not just wrapped

this thing is the one. the weight matters especially if you wanna stay in your current suspension category and setup. I always have wanted the side hoops. And the cutout for the frame mounted spare tire carrier arm (from a couple manufacturer) is the direction I prefer to go with as well.
