We have a '23 pro with the 265/70 nitto terra grappler tires. Both my wife and I hate them. It is SCARY to drive in any wet conditions. She slid out on a damp on-ramp, and she is a very conservative driver. I just drove the family back from an event in moderate rain and the 4runner felt very unstable over 60mph.

I still have a Tundra with Falken Wildpeak AT3W that have been amazing, so I'm thinking about selling the Nitto and switching to Falken.

Are other 4runner owners also experiencing terrible rain performance with the Nitto?

If I replace, should I stick with the factory size 265/70 or go one up at 275/70?

I haven't run those Nittos, but it's pretty common knowledge around these parts that they are not a great tire.

I personally would not run 275, because AFAIK they are only available in an E load, which is going to be pretty heavy compared to stock. If you're not off-roading, E really isn't required or desirable. You'll feel the extra weight when it comes to performance and mileage.

I'd stick with the stock size, in a P, SL or XL load range.

I had those on my slightly lifted 2019 Silverado. They did fine on road and just okay off road. In the rain and winter conditions they were terrible. I put Falken AT3W on my new 4Runner and love them in all conditions.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully there will be some AT3 on discount with the new AT4 coming out

I did a boatload of research for a tire that's good in the rain and versatile off road with excellent snow performance. Good Year Duratracs were it and they have proven themselves 10 fold. Some say they are noisy, but there are far worse choices.

They’re decent tires as well as the ridge grapplers but both are horrible in rain

    toyo all the way.

I had them on my Tacoma I just got rid of and hated them the dealer replaced 2of them because they could not road force balance them. When I bought my new 4Runner I did not buy the sr5 with the package that was put on a the port because of the nitto tires on it.

They are made by the same company. I have the RG's on my Tundra and no issues in the rain.

Most members around here replace their OEM tires with *somethign else*. KO2s, wildpeaks, or other lesser known options. I am unsure about the OEM options for a pro, but I imagine pro owners also change their tires.

The 275 Wildepeaks rubbed at right full lock in reverse on my 4R. A little fender tuck and a well placed knife fixed that issue. Factory SR5 snowflake wheels. Others have gone to 285's with just a little trimming. I watched a guy grab his knife while we were camping, cut the place where the 285's on the 7 spoke TRD wheels were rubbing and said, "That takes care of that".

dump them and get some Falken, wild peaks or Mickey Thompson tires.

not that I condone driving fast in the rain but I was on the turnpike today in a pretty good deluge doing about 75-80 miles an hour around sweeping corners, etc and felt absolutely glued to the road on my Falken WP’s in 285/70/17s

I am not a fan of my 275 c load Wildpeak at3w in snow. Not great in deep snow, gets squirrelly. Been sliding out on corners with packed snow going skiing when previous tires on different rigs don't lose traction. I am feeling the slide before the computer does any corrective action.

Going with Wrangler territories next myself, they were solid all around tires on my Bronco other than holding rocks.

Anyone have experience with the Falken Rubitrek a/t? Considering these over the Wildpeak a/t3w at $50 less per tire.

I agree with this. I got wildpeaks partly because they were reportedly good in snow. I think they are ok - they got me through the winter - but they aren’t great. Suck in mud too. Love them in every other condition though.

great in snow and pretty good in mud per my experience.

Consistency and traction of mud and snow can vary considerably. Maybe there is some nuance in terms of specific conditions where there tires perform well or not.

True. Ive never had any bad experiences with them in rain, snow, mud, dirt or dry conditions for the many years ive had them on various 4rnrs, so I’ll keep using them.

I cant remember if it was on here or TW but I've only seen 1 guy report running them and I think it had been less than 1000mi. They are top of my list. Hoping to get another 10k out of my stocks first though
