I need to look into this tune. Where did you have that done and what exactly do they tune? I’ve got CAI and the exhaust on my TRD Sport, curious what tuning I could do without getting a PC.
Also, first place I’ve read someone else mention the smelly rotten egg exhaust smell from straight back exhaust! Finally. Not just me. I suppose that’s normal for the 4Runners then.

As for the tune, kdmax, ott, yotawerx all different companies that offer a tune for the 4runner. And better yet all are members on this forum.

I would not be so quick in discarding Toyota adding additional sound proof to the models that come with the TRD Exhaust from factory. But, like you, I do not have actual evidence of that other than what I feel. What I feel/hear is much less drone in my 2024 than what I heard in my 2017, which I added the TRD Exhaust after the fact. And, yes. It is all very subjective. I actually enjoy the exhaust now.

Just swapped out my TRD Pro muffler for slightly used OEM stock muffler. SWEET BABY JESUS I got my life back. So much more enjoyable to drive at any rpm range. Thank you Mike in Hanover Pa!!!!

My case was complete opposite. I sold that droning POS exhaust off my 2023 as soon as I could. I put in on a members 2019 and it was MUCH quieter on his than mine...go figure. I'm loving the OEM muffler peace and quiet, and this is coming from someone who's raced sport bikes and changed exhaust on almost everything I've owned.

What have we learned from this thread? Some humans like the TRD Exhaust and some don’t. Mines been on a week now and with music playing, I barely notice the difference. Sounds a bit more like I’m driving a truck. Wife doesn’t think it’s too bad either, 3 year old loves it haha! Maybe I’m old and have messed up ears and don’t hear what everyone else hears. Or perhaps others have some deep suppressed emotions and louder than normal sounds are triggering. Conclusion: roll down that back 4Runner window, take a cruise, and breathe in the sweet fresh air, or rotten egg exhaust if you have that quiet OEM exhaust on ;)

    haha! Rock on!!

I took mine for a nice long drive around town and at highway speed with the non-TuRD muffler in place. Radio volume before at Hwy speeds was 16 and now 9-10 after. Thats a win for me and the family gives a thumbs up. I can also hear my son better now from the back seat.

if anyone wants to buy my TRD muffer w/o tailpipe, $500 obo for pickup or shipping at your cost from Glenmoore, Pa.

Cheers and have a great weekend everyone!

    that’s very possible

I ride a motorcycle that has an exhaust much much much louder than the trd, even while using custom earplugs. I love my motorcycle exhaust though, and it actually sounds great. On the other hand the trd exhaust sounds meh. I like it when I start the 4R because it sounds like a truck. i don’t mind it while commuting. I really like it going at speeds in the desert. I hate it going on roadtrips in the mountains when it downshifts to 3rd gear at 75 mph for extended period of times.

I probably will change it to the quiet muffler eventually and do the mod to keep the side exit but I might keep the trd one if I ever want to put it back on.

Just to be clear, my previous response is fully satirical. Is fun to see who likes what though. Also is confirmed that my hearing is f**ked. If my stereo is on volume 10 I can’t hear anything LOL!

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

People aren’t sufficiently aware of the dangers of mining, yet our world depends on the labors of miners that go into the belly of the beast every day. The mining hardware itself can tear you up without a second’s notice. Even knowing the dangers, miners themselves avoid using good PPE because it can make it more difficult to work.

Even though you’re mining bitcoins, it is still part of the mining industry, and apparently you use mining hardware as well. Wear your PPE!!!! Earplugs aren’t that expensive. Also, keep your fingers out of the cooling fans!

What does it take to replace the exhaust? I actually don’t like the rotten egg exhaust smell, and that brings up a really good point with the side exhaust. Any special brackets or anything?

Its a straightforward swap(uses the same brackets.)

As for the smell, the side exit exhaust(trd pro) does help a little but doesn't eliminate it.

I have never smelled any rotten egg exhaust fumes with an OEM muffler, or the Trd pro set up. Guess I got lucky

I’ve driven with the back window down several times with my surf rods sticking out and havent smelled that in either my 2012 or 2022.

Agreed. I’ve noticed a little less smell, but still will draft in depending on which window down combination you’ve got goin on and the wind haha.

I do wear earplugs for what it’s worth and I’m not in the mines everyday haha. I run some hardware at my house as well which I can hear a few rooms over daily.
Nice to see someone on here that actually knows what Bitcoin mining entails! Most people go cross eyed when they hear “Bitcoin mining.” Lol

Best of both worlds here - I modified my stock OR exhaust to have a side exit. :bananadance::yes:
