Use when towing small R-POD trailer to keep the rear of the vehicle at the stock height. I've looked everywhere.

I'm sure someone will help you with air bags. Have you considered a load leveling hitch?

Off topic but how well does the 4runner pull that trailer? Been thinking of getting one the same size

Did not have them on my 4R but I did on my Tundra and it helped a lot.

I have road active suspension now on my Tacoma but can't use it on the 4R.

Firstly, are you using a weight distribution hitch? If not, that would be step one for multiple reasons. If so, then I would look into airbags.

Not sure what kind of "airbag" system you've looked at, but if I ever needed one on my 4Runner, I'd try and get one of these. Fits between the leaf spring and the frame, easily levels the rear end. I had something like this on a Jeep Comanche pickup I used to own...

4Runner DOES NOT have leaf springs. Maybe have a look under yours?

Some like their bags but a load leveling system is a far more stable solution which is why I suggested it over bags that still keep all the tongue weight on the rear which also effects the steering. I suspect you know this as well catbrown.

Yes. I towed a 20' Airstream BasecampX. Granted, I upgraded the springs, but I wouldn't tow a travel trailer behind the 4Runner without a WDH/anti-sway installed. Just so much safer.

Damn, another thing I didn't realize about the 4R...like how my Limited has a matching spare wheel...they did have leaf springs in the rear for a while though, didn't they?

that would never work on a 4runner. We don’t have leaf springs

I have no lift or suspension modification besides the Sumo springs in the rear. My trailer weighs 1200 and 200 pounds on the tongue, those are empty figures on the spec sheet from the factory. It is an Intech Flyer Chase. I debated between airbags and sumo springs and went with the latter. Easier install and never have to adjust pressures. Been towing with them for two years with no issues, also assists when the truck is loaded on longer camping trips without the trailer.

For air shocks? The problem with them is that they transfer the vehicle load from the springs to the shock mounts which aren't designed to carry weight, just dampen spring oscillations. Def follow the others recommendations for springs.

Always wanted to ask about these with the compressor:

    Air spring
    https://www.etrailer.com/Vehicle-Suspension/Toyota/4Runner/2021/F4135.html?VehicleID=20211014355

    Compressor:
    https://www.etrailer.com/Air-Suspension-Compressor-Kit/Firestone/F2219.html

From reading around you can also get a kit where it works via cellphone and adjust to be level automatically. Would this work on a 4 Runner? The springs are confirmed as fit, I guess the compressor is pretty generic just need to connect to the springs, run power and connect the Bluetooth thingy. Maybe an overkill... Having said that my brother in law has a Nissan Armada and it has a self levelling air bags in the back and he loves it.
