So my 2019 4runner, with only 48000 miles showed error code P2441, I reset the code via obd2 unit, replaced the gas cap with an oem one ,and changed out the air filter, so my question is will this rectify the issue please advise?.. thank you

    • Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2441 stands for “Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Closed Bank 1.” It’s triggered when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects problems with the secondary air injection system’s switching valve, which is responsible for allowing ambient air to enter the exhaust manifold and other areas of the exhaust system.
    • On certain Toyota vehicles, the P2441 code might indicate a failed air switching valve (VSV), a blocked or disconnected air injection hose, and a damaged air pressure sensor connector.
    • Common causes of the P2441 include a failed secondary air pump control valve, a clogged or severed vacuum hose, and a failed secondary air pump.
    • Symptoms of the P2441 code include an illuminated check engine light, noise coming from the air injection system, and the vehicle getting stuck in limp mode.

P2441 could be caused by a plethora of possible issues from injection pump to the valves or even the manifold or wiring.
I am not sure changing the gas cap is a possible remedy. Take it to the dealer or a garage.

Are any of these issues covered under the emissions warranty??

I am told the emissions system is covered under 8 years/80000 mile warranty but cannot verify.

I bet the foam filter in the air injection pump deteriorated.

There are 2 parts to the Federal emissions warranty. 1) 2 year/24,000 miles any part that would cause the vehicle to fall below emissions standards. Note these would already be covered under 3/36K bumper to bumper.

    Emission Control Parts
    1. Exhaust Gas Conversion Systems: oxygen sensor, thermal reactor, catalytic converter,
    dual-walled exhaust pipe
    2. Exhaust Gas Recirculation System: EGR valve, thermal vacuum switch, EGR solenoid,
EGR spacer plate, EGR backpressure transducer, sensor and switches use to control EGR
    flow
    3. Evaporative Emission Control System: purge valve, fuel filler cap, purge solenoid, vapor
    storage canister and filter
    4. Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System: PCV valve, PCV solenoid
    5. Air Injection System: Air pump, diverter, bypass, or gulp valve, reed valve, anti-backfire
    or deceleration valve
    6. Early Fuel Evaporative (EFE) System: EFE valve, thermal vacuum switch, heat riser valve
    7. Fuel Metering System: electronic control module (unit) or EFI air flow meter, computer
command module or mixture control unit, deceleration controls, electronic choke, fuel
injectors, fuel injection units and fuel altitude compensator sensor, bars or rails for EFI
or TBI systems, mixture settings on sealed fuel mixture control solenoid, diaphragm or
other systems, fuel metering components that achieve closed/other feedback control
    sensors/loop operation switches and valves
    8. Air Induction System: thermostatically controlled air cleaner, air box
    Questions and Answers4
    9. Ignition Systems: electronic spark advance timing advance/retard systems, high energy
    electronic ignition
    10. Miscellaneous Parts: hoses, gaskets, brackets, clamps and other accessories used in the
    above systems
    Emission Related Parts
These are examples of other parts of your vehicle which have a primary purpose other than emis
sions control but which nevertheless have significant effects on your vehicle’s emissions. If any
of these parts fail to function or function improperly, your vehicle’s emissions may exceed federal
standards. Therefore, when any of the parts of the following systems are defective in materials or
workmanship and have failed in a way that would be likely to cause your vehicle’s emissions to
exceed federal standards, they should be repaired or replaced under the emissions warranty:
    1. Fuel Injection System: fuel distributor
    2. Air Induction System: turbocharger, intake manifold
    3. Exhaust System: exhaust manifold
    4. Ignition System: distributor, spark plugs, ignition wires and coil
    5. Miscellaneous Parts: hoses, gaskets, brackets, clamps, and other accessories used in the
    above systems

    2) 8y/80,000 miles on these major components.

What Are Specified Major Emission Control Components?
There are three specified major emission control components, covered for the first 8 years or
80,000 miles of vehicle use (whichever first occurs) on 1995 and newer vehicles:
    • Catalytic converters
    • The electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU)
    • The onboard emissions diagnostic device or computer (OBD)

This. An air filter and gas cap will not address this code P2441. Since you already erased the fault just drive it see it comes on again. If it does don't erase the code. It more than likely is covered under emiission warranty if it's a part failure. The dealer will need to see code in memory before they do anything. As mentioned check the foam filter in the pump. Toyota could claim it's a maintenace item. Water buildup in the secondary air system causing internal corrosion was a problem at one time. Can you hear it purge when you shut the engine down? Ignoring this fault could potentially damage your cat converters over time.

Not the engine running. After the engine shuts down you should hear a momentary whirring sound from the engine compartment. This is the air pump purging any water. On older models it could be an ECM software update.

Well damn, that's a pretty thorough explanation of that code fault.......I tip my glass to you

Double check that. Listen closely. If it doesn't that can be an issue. Only so much can be said without seeing first hand. But not purging after shutdown automatically is a problem. Software or not.
