Definitely! Hope that guy answers your questions. He's probably low-key the main source on Gen 6 info, from what I've quietly deduced from "stuff". How? Feel like I'm exposing him, so won't say much.

I've insisted on it being made in Japan, but he's at odds with those expectations. Not only did he see it up close and in person multiple times for testing purposes, he's claimed for a long time that Guanajuato is the source plant. He wasn't the only one either.

I noticed how Toyota quietly didn't announce full production switch of the Tacoma to Tmmgt in September 2021, after it was first announced in January 2020 in relation to the 2023 Sequoia production moving to Texas. Toyota just did it on the low, which they've never done and focused 100% on the Sequoia portion. Like they were ashamed of moving the Tacoma to Mexico-only and wanted to slip it on by.

Half of me has been wondering if they're quietly moving production of the 6th gen 4R to Mexico, a move VERY uncharacteristic of their corporate practices of press release+local government speech junket on assembly related changes or additions. The past few weeks since reading his comments, I've uncomfortably realized there's a first time for everything.

Toyota either are keeping Tahara and still studying GJ Mexico. Or, Tahara will be the launch factory in MY 2025, with Mexico being added very lowkey during 2025-26. Or for the very first time ever, Toyota will secretly start in 2024, producing the 6th gen solely in the new factory of Tmmgt alongside the Taco, yet not even announce this production change as they've traditionally done per model.

The last scenario doesn't make sense, but there's always a first time for everything. The first inkling I had, was from their deliberate omission to hide Texan production of the Tacoma concluding, something they've always held special press releases for.

Believe me, I've been redlining it and thus picks up with speed indeed on the freeways! I've driven 3 generations of Tacoma the past 6 weeks and have to say...the 2GR sucks. Something is just lacking there, that wasn't the case with the 4.0 1GR and new 2.4T. This one unsurprisingly is the quickest, but I do wonder how much extra weight the Gen 6 4R will have over the Tacoma?

 

Early information I obtained from Carmaker1 back in 2021 was that Job 1 for the 6th gen was scheduled at Guanajuato in Jan 2024 at the absolute earliest. Unsurprisingly, that date got pushed back to Sept 2024 as things got delayed. With that pushback, someone else discovered production had been moved to Tahara. That finding is Post #206 on Page 7 in this thread. It corroborates with the info you just shared. Unfortunately I didn't provide a link to where that info was found at the time......but I'm not even sure that link would still exist.

If the 1st run of the 6th gen is still scheduled to happen at Tahara, I agree that Guanajuato could be slowly added to the mix somewhere along the way. It would make sense if Land Cruiser sales take off.

Basically the ring or whatever engages and disengages the auto 4H in the front diff... so Toyota will replace their front diff completely.

Supposedly Nathan and Andre are saying Toyota is all hands on deck to see if this will be a big problem... I assume it may become a recall if it's found to be a component issue.

 

man… this and the rumors of 6th gen really have me wondering if I should just go for a terra 24 or wait and risk it for a 25. I’d hate to be wheeling or camping with my family and have some part blow up on me, when I’m going not super hard…

 

The TRD Pro is one of the best looking trucks ever made. It is destined to be a classic and a collector's prized possession. So follow your good instincts and buy a Terra now. In three years, after all the kinks are worked out of the Gen 6, take a look. I would not buy a Gen 6, no matter how good it looks or what paid influencers say, for three years. YMMV

 

I know it's sketchy, but it is a first year model with brand new drivetrain and components. Things going wrong aren't unheard of even for Toyota's first year models.

Ball's in your court; you either want the last of the N/A V6 engines with legendary reliability, or do you want a brand new version? If you do go for the 6th gen, I's say wait at least 2-3 years so Toyota can work out the bugs and such.

 

I know you guys probably have information that says otherwise, but imagine if only the Lexus and Land Cruiser kept the body on frame. That would make 5th gen prices skyrocket.

My suggestion being if Toyota decided not to use BOF with the new 4Runner. My question is mute if Toyota already has released information about this.

Hey bro, sorry for the long silence. Been a tricky few weeks with work. Yeah, we have the same sources. Shared a few stuff with me in private, so I'm going off of that. Gone dead for months though.

Been pretty accurate tho going back all these years, so clearly the inside links have been solid.

Gonna admit, a lot of dudes here were really skeptical of me when I first signed up (even calling me a troll), but I didn't want to come across as hostile and burn any possible bridges (future goodwill), so I kept my head down to not come across as an ass.

I'm not sure what marketing plans are for reveal, but going of off deliberately timed spy shots, we're getting close. I'm only worried they might wait until the 3rd quarter for reveal, but tbh it doesn't make sense comparing recent truck or Toyota car reveals.

Only ones I remember being revealed close to release like yesteryear, were the 2023 Prius and 2022 Tundra, which were about 3 months between reveal and dealer intro. Everything else, it's been about 6 months to nearly 1 year. Some of em cuz of delays.

Past runners according to our shared insider, were revealed very close to release. Current gen was in late September of '09, literally 4 weeks after production began in Tahara and exactly 2 months before November on sale date for the 2010s. We first got Gen 5 leaks in late August 2009, because of that very fact.

2nd gen is hard to reference, because now ur talkin 35 years ago literally. I think I heard it was February or March 1989 reveal, for May '89 release? Maybe even June '89 release?

4th gen, was a bit scattered between late August and early September 2002, before release in mid October that year. Maybe Toyota will follow the current trend of earlier reveals like the Taco and Sequoia?

New Taco started getting spied in final shape Jan of '23, before mid-May reveal. Gen 6 was spied Feb of '24, so maybe a June reveal?

As for Mexico, I haven't asked D-tide to confirm solid details, because of "privacy concerns". Feel like I'm being lazy, but I'm a bit afraid of pissing them off that I even know who they are online.

I don't think the delayed 250 helps one bit.

 

We shouldn't have long to wait now, I have it on good authority that the 6th gen 4Runner will be introduced at the Overland Expo this year, now we just have to figure out which month, my guess is May.

Me too but if the motor is anything like the tundra where you have to remove the cab to replace a turbo or has a GPF it will be a hard pass

After looking inside a new Tundra and new Sequoia at the dealership this past week and realizing they have

• same engine

And after hearing Toyota talk about wanting to share more common parts between vehicles, it makes sense 4Runner will basically be a Tacoma SUV.
