Flowmaster muffler for '23 4Runner

    Hey all! First post and it's about muffler upgrades.

    So far I've only researched Flowmaster mufflers. The ones in question are the Super 50 and delta, and flowFX, going from quietest to the loudest. Does anyone have any of these configurations? My goal is the give it a little growl on startup and idle, yet still cabin quiet for commuting. My muffler shop recommends the flowFX.

    I would avoid chokemaster. LCE makes a center section replacement but I haven’t heard it.

    I replaced the big OEM muffler with an oval one from Summit Racing:

    I've seen a few people on here wanting to get rid of TRD exhaust systems in favor of stock. Wonder why? It's because any exhaust that makes noise is going to be obnoxious to live with on highway slogs.

    I hate to be lame, but exhausts on these 4.0L's kinda suck. I haven't heard a single one that I'm like, "Oh yeah that sounds awesome, I need that."

    The scale goes from premium mediocre to awful across the board for all manufacturers.

    I have a custom built magnaflow exhaust that after a bunch of fuckery I finally got to the sound I like, with zero drone and slight rumble. But if I could do it all again, I would of just left it alone. After a few months it's now just, "How my 4Runner sounds". It's not bad, but not inspiring either.

    But, my opinion isn't the fun one. I vote leave it and spend money elsewhere. And I'll apologize for not answering your specific question.

    Thought great on 5.0 Mustangs in the day, I doubt they will be very good on a V6 4Runner. You can't beat physics.

    My daughter has a '23 TRD ORP, and I had her drive my '23 Limited after I replaced the muffler and installed a Pedal Commander. She noticed the sound difference as soon as she started it up. She didn't complain about any droning during her time behind the wheel. The outlet on the Limited is at the back, not at the side like on her TRD. The reason I mention this is it's definitely louder than stock with the rear window down. May not be as noticeable on a side-exit model.

    I sold the TRD exhaust and put the stock one on in the first month. Best thing I’ve ever done to it. TRD is obnoxious under hard acceleration and highway cruising and you can’t tell any difference in performance.

    Just curious if anyone has long term experience with some of the fancier aftermarket cat back exhaust systems with regard to corrosion.

    Are any of these (flowmaster, gibson, URD etc) a good bet for long term corrosion durability to replace stock exhaust once it rusts out?

    As long as its stainless it'll hold up better then the oem exhaust...the trd exhaust is stainless . If your oem exhaust is rusting, just get a low mileage takeoff from a newer 4runner.

    Mine’s not rusted yet, but time will march, and takeoffs from new 5th gen 4runners won’t be a thing much longer. Mostly just curious at this point.

    On every car I’ve needed to replace OE exhaust (due to corrosion), the new “muffler shop” exhaust doesn’t seem to last much more than a couple of years before they rust somewhere and get a leak. It might be worth getting a good catback aftermarket system if the materials and construction is better that the typical replacement systems.

    Trd pro exhaust, it's stainless and great quality. Just can be loud if you have sensitive ears.

    Yes it should be muffler and tailpipe is all stainless

    The trd exhaust is stainless, muffler section and tail pipe. The oem ypipe is not stainless. But my urd mid pipe is stainless.
