Deer Strike

I’ve been trying to balance out all the factors when it comes to bumpers and I’ve become convinced that there are no perfect bumper options - aftermarket or otherwise. That’s not to say there aren’t very good ones, there are, but I still haven’t found perfection.

You basically pick what’s important to you, and what isn’t, and solve for that.

I sort of got over the airbag issue by understanding what was going on, because the ARB bumper has no compatible recovery points and the Ironman one doesn’t have a high cut option…or even written instructions.

I’m sort of liking the All-Pro one with the High Cut because it ticks a lot of the boxes that SSO does without the lead times. But who knows how I will feel a month from now.

We are moving to Colorado from Arizona this year and my wife is freaking out about the deer. We are building at 7100 ft elevation and the property borders the BLM. First look at the property showed Mountain Lion tracks in the snow. Well she wants a freaking cattle ranch bumper on the front of her 4Runner. I hate the look plus they are heavy as hell. Oh well, this is going to be fun

 

Funny story, my wife was looking at the insurance bill and noticed it had gone up on both of our vehicles. We figured since we moved from the big city out into the sticks that rates would have actually decreased. They said the reason they went up a bit is because the likelihood of an animal incursion was higher. Well, she wasn't wrong. Damned if I didn't hit one the first week living up here.

Regarding the insurance increase, yeah that made me chuckle. I’ve found that they always have a “reasonable” explanation for any increases in premiums. There’s always an explanation.

Somewhat related, I once got quoted the same price for a policy on a 2020 corolla, that I was paying for a 2018 Highlander. The highlander was nearly twice the purchase price of the corolla. I asked for an explanation. And they gave me one: “all that safety equipment is expensive to replace after an accident”. I thought that was odd, since the 2018 had the same exact toyota safety sense systems as the 2020. Oh well, got a 4runner instead lol.

 

Lucky i was in my Mazda3 with super sport tires. Close call and seemed closer than what the poor video shows.

 

All is good! Fairly snowless, but good weather to keep the contractor busy with outdoor remodel.

I’ve got some truck projects I want to get done, so looking forward to the spring warmup. Gotta fix the fog light that got borked by the deer strike. Also got some viper cut wing extensions designed to go with my winch bumper to install. Since I need to remove the bumper, de-rust, and refinish, seems like a good time to get all that done!
