Hey all, just got a new 2024 4Runner Limited. While I absolutely love the vehicle and almost everything about it, I have two issues that I cannot seem to find solutions to in the manual. Hoping someone could help point me in the right direction.

1: When the vehicle is running and I hop out for whatever reason, while the vehicle is still running, I get 8 beeps. It's pretty annoying and I cannot seem to find a place to disable this. Typically it is if I hop out at a mailbox or to open the rear and I have the key fob in my pocket.

2: Remote start. Whether with the remote or the app, when I approach the vehicle while it is running from a remote start, when I open the door the vehicle shuts off. This is kind of annoying. Every other vehicle I have had with remote start continues to run, you just hit the brake and start button to turn the vehicle on.

Since these are my only gripes about this vehicle coming from a Ram that made zero noise and had the remote start, I suppose I would definitely trade the expected life of 300,000 miles I get with this vehicle over the Ram, but is there anything I can do about these two items or is this just something I need to deal with?

    Thanks all

The two things you're describing are SOP. The first is telling you the key has left the vehicle, and although I've never tried it, I believe the vehicle shuts down after a certain amount of time. Leave the fob in the cup holder or something when you exit to check the mail if you don't want beeping. The second is a safety/anti-theft thing. If you're inside the house while your car is getting all warm and toasty, and someone pries the door open, the car will be shut down. The only way to restart is with the fob in proximity. Just things you have to get used to. Definitely not a huge deal breaker, IMO, and a much better vehicle than any Stellantis product. Enjoy and welcome!

Yep, number 2 is a Toyota thing. There’s some aftermarket gizmo announced here to defeat that but I have no personal experience with it.

    Question about remote start...

Does it stop when the fob approaches or when the door opens?

    Stops when the door opens.

I honestly never understood all the hate this feature gets. To me the important thing is to remotely start the car, so when I get to it, it will be warm or cold depending on the case. The fact that when I open the door, it shuts off bothers me nothing. I just have to hit the brake and start button, it runs again. It takes 5 seconds maybe and a zero inconvenience to me. It is not like I have to jump on the car and immediately start driving like I stole it. But I guess to each their own.

Yes when the door opens. Also, most have a time-out that shuts the car off after 15 minutes regardless of door opening.

The shut off is a theft prevention thing. Eh, logical... Maybe making it stay on with a fob present would be nice.

I wonder if it is switchable in Techstream...

Nope, only option so far is aftermarket, it’s been a thorn in push-button Toyota owners for a while.
