Non 4Runner Question ( Opinion )

I'm going out on a limb and say the OP has seen the writing on the wall regarding 4Runner owners' opinions of Chevy & Dodge and dropped out of this conversation a couple hours in...

 

If I was really limited to those, I guess the Chevy. My only mopar experience was an 04 Grand Cherokee that was great for the first 60k miles and then cost me more in repairs than the payment had been for the next 10k before I gave up.
If none of the other suggestions float your boat, I'd look seriously at an Outback. Especially if you can find a low mileage 2018-19. Pretty good mpg, plenty of space for up to 4, and a great roadtrip car imo.

 

When I retired, followed by the wife a year or so later, we paid cash for 2 used cars: A '19 4Runner and a "13 RAV4. Love both= given us no mechanical problems, handle light (RAV4 with 23K miles) to heavy snow (4Runner with 17K miles) for our 3-5 months of winter. However, if I had to do it over, I would get a second 4Runner over the RAV4. There are a couple of times each year when the wife needs the 4Runner due to 12-15" of snow, or for more cargo area for her Kiwanis "stuff".

Who CARES if you have two of the same vehicle? With after-market "stuff" they can look totally different! Couple around the corner have 2 4Runners, a stock white one and a buff-up black one! That's like saying we shouldn't have a blue RAV and 4Runner, or a grey Frontier and Xterra (Our previous cars)!

 

With the caveat that I know *nothing* about these brands but from reading other people's experiences online or talking to people that owned them, neither.

 

No Still here, Just reading everyones thoughts on this. The Durango is a big no because of the price. They want 53k for a v6 and close to 70k for a v8. They both have similar problems with the engine ticking at close to or around 100k miles which is expensive to fix, also the tipm is expensive and their transmission as well. The traverse if maintained properly would get you to about 200k and for a price that 18k cheaper if I had to risk it I would prefer that. Still looking and thinking about it. I was looking at a lexus 460 from Bobby Rahal in pa but the fine print says they will only sell to pa residents unless you purchased from them before. I haven't given up so it's not set in stone. Since I am not home much I can wait and still research it.

 

I follow a number of YT channels that cover car market, from what I heard there, Stellantis (parent CO of Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler) is in big trouble and can't move cars, with most of them being in over-supply territory. Not that it is good idea at any price, but you are likely to be able to get BIG discount on Durango, likely 10K if you shop around. Such discount can make your lease very cheap and if you lease for 3 years you don't care about long-term reliability issues.

 

I tried to buy a 4R from another dealer in PA. They wanted $2,500 non resident markup. Ha. Best wishes

 

We have a 2017 outback(wife's car) its nice. Wish it was the v6 though. I like it cause it has plenty of space and a decent roof rack

 

The Outback roof rack implementation is pretty slick. I like how the cross bars fold back into the side rails (or redeploy from the side rails) in just a few seconds without needing any tools.

 

I was really disappointed in the 4R roof solutions after getting used to the Outback

 

Yes I love the fact it folds in and out. My tacomas oem roof rack was the same way.

OP, do a used or CPO V6 Highlander. Both Traverse and Durangos are shit.

You already have a 4R, I know you don't want another, but don't stoop that low and get those lesser brands. Stick with Toyota or Honda or even Mazda.
