I had these awesome fog lights to my 2023 4R TRD ORP...coul not be happier with the end result...the amount of additional light I can see when driving is amazing...and not one person flicked their brights at me, as we aimed them accordingly...

Diode Dynamics "Pro" fog lights...with the option "back-lit" feature, which allows you to run them as an additional DLR. The come on that way automatically when you run your DLR and/or parking lights.

Money well-spent for sure...had them installed at NEO Motorsport Garage in N Royalton, OH (Roman did them for me). Very happy...

They look really good, I was just checking out Diode Dynamics website to see what they had available for 4runners and it's quite a bit. I might have to add these to the list.

Yeah, Diode Dynamics makes good stuff but can get pricey! I’ve got the SS3 Max Amber Fogs with backlighting also. Extremely happy with their performance. They blend well with my Morimotos with Amber DRLs.

I always wondered what the point of "backlit" fog lights was. Now I know.

Super sharp! Yeah it’s kind of like you get what you pay for…I’ve never been inside of any vehicle where I can see that well at night until now…definitely worth it for me…

One question: when fog lights are run with headlights, does it not bother you they are different colors -- during night time driving.

Oh that's cool! I really regret not jumping on Diode fogs back when they were under 2 bills.

They look good, could you please share a part number or link to them? I was on Diode Dynamics web page and saw the Elite series but not a Pro series with back light? I had also been considering their rock lights or ditch lights but aren't familiar with their products. Thanks in advance !

Thank you....yes sir....I took a photo right off the side of the box....they're the DD7000 (part #). That is the "Pro" version, amber, with the back-lit option. IMG_1465.jpg

The only reason I didn't add the "ditch lights" was because from what I understand, the light tends to reflect off the hood, and possibly cause visibility issues (depending on your eyes, etc). I also like to stay as close to a factory look as possible. Just a personal preference...

In addition, they have to run on an entirely seperate switch, and I honestly just wanted to keep it to the original light switch...keep it simple philosophy...again, just a personal preference.

Here's the link to the specific area of the website that breaks down all the part numbers, etc.

Thank you...yeah the back-lit feature sure is a nice option...of course, if yours fail or are damaged in a crash, you'd always have the option to update them then...it's a cheap upgrade, too...

Thanks for the intel. I was scratching my head over that if a replacement lamp would require a separate switch to be used possibly as a DRL. Would be nice to keep that all on the stock switches but probably not designed to be on as DRL unless the headlamps were truly engaged.

Yeah that's why I liked this option...no ripping your dash apart and adding a switch. Some don't mind that. I'd prefer not to, and honestly if I had to make one complaint about the 4R, where they put all those switches (including your blank where this switch would go) are hard to see / reach. And most of them are not back-lit making them difficult to see when driving at night...so I just went for simplicity and "ditched" the ditch light idea. Lol...

My pros completely overpower the low beam so you don’t really even see the low beam until pretty far out. And at that point it’s dim enough that it kinda blends with what’s left of the light from the pros. It’s really not a problem. Good question though. I asked the same thing before I got the pros.

Yeah it's a total non-issue...I was blown away how well the Pro version allowed me to see at night...and not one vehicle flashed their brights at me, indicating they're aimed correctly.

Something tells me one of those AUXBEAM multi switch panels and fuse blocks may be in my future. It may make it simpler with the added lights folks like to throw on their 4R.

Although I have the DD SS3 Max fogs in mine, I bought them before the backlight option was available. That said, when I added a set of SS5 Pro spot beams behind the grill, they had the backlight function and I wired them into the parking light circuit so I could use them as DRL's too. BTW, I disabled the factory DRL's through the option in the infotainment system.

How do you add back light to the dd fogs that didn't come with it? Do I just need to buy this https://www.diodedynamics.com/ss3-2-pin-to-4-pin-wire-tap-kit.html ?? Or do I have to buy all the new lights

Damn those are sweet. Wish my Baja's had a backlit feature. I also had no idea you could turn the high beam DRL off in vehicle, I'm heading out to do that now! Currently running non-voltage regulated LEDs in my highs so I just don't use my DRLs at the moment.

That’s awesome! I’m thinking you’ll really like the backlit feature. Just make sure they order you the same part. I posted the exact part # above…SS3 Pro / Amber / Backlit

@BMunster234R Which DRL wire did you tap into to get it to work? I picked up the DD Elite yellows last night but didn't mess with the back-lit feature since I was uncertain about which wire to tap into.

I actually had them installed by a shop...but I did tell the installer...that I wanted them to come on when I had my light switch in the "parking lights" position...but that position also runs the DRLs...

What I did notice though....after having them installed...no matter if my switch is the DRL position or on the parking light position...the back-lit functions works.

    Hope that helps...

This looks great, I've been considering it myself. I am Curious if anyone has any experience or opinions if a setup like this restricts enough airflow to cause overheating, especially during slow crawling.

I've had this setup in place for about 2 years now with zero overheating issues. (And I tow a 22' boat pretty regularly.) BTW, if anything, a setup like mine would affect cooling more at high speeds than at idle. At idle, it will have virtually zero effect.

Great to hear! Makes me feel better about the direction I want to go with off-road lighting.
