Any Updates To Extended Warranty Sellers?

Proud new owner of a ‘24 Limited. I’m loving this truck so far. I have gotten quotes for Toyota Platinum VSA warranties from Jerry Johnson and Troy Dietrich. Jerry and Troy have come in pretty much identical in price. I just wanted to check and see if anyone has any other dealers selling discounted warranties that I’ve missed. Jennifer is no longer at Wolverine Toyota and now only does Lexus. Thanks!!

 

I've been trying to reach Jerry Johnson about a warranty, have not received a callback yet.

 

I just spoke to him, unfortunately I have too many miles to qualify for plan.

Yes, as I understand it you must be within 3 years of the in service date and under 36k miles. A dealer can tell you the in service date based on the VIN if you have a used one or shopping for one. Car Fax is also a good way to see the in the service date.

 

Never got an extended warranty. Since the late 80's I have owned nothing but Toyota's, most of them I put 200,000 miles on then traded in for another one. Only issue out of factory warranty was a rear axle bearing on a Tacoma with over 100,000 miles on it.

 

Yep, I’m one of those peace of mind people. I have read all the discussions on yay or nay on the warranties. I would NEVER pay retail for one like most dealers try to charge, only discounted like Jerry or Troy sell. On a side note, I previously had an ‘06 4Runner and what do you know, oil leak from front timing cover. Sitting there $2,900 later wishing I had the warranty. Thinking I’ll probably go ahead and spend the $1,795 now and have worry free driving for the next 10 years / 125k miles.

 

I bought new, Finance guy and GM were of course pushing. Offered it at $3700, $2700, and finally like $1800. Said no and the GM actually said, "you gotta think about my livelihood here, the people that work for me." FOH dude. You would have sold it to me at double that 20 minutes ago. I'm coming around to the idea by reading about them here.

 

How would they verify the odo of your vehicle at time of sale?

Nope. I asked her. She said in an email it’s an entirely new crew there. I even asked if she could sell it from Lexus since it’s technically Toyota Financial Services. Said she’s strictly Lexus.

 

I think different dealers do it different ways. Troy at Toyota of Greenfield requires a letter signed by you attesting to the mileage and a copy of registration with VIN.

 

Couldn't they just pull service records from Toyota Service database or Carfax internally. Indicates Mileage.
Some Toyota service departments don't report to Carfax (not sure why)
Got a used Toyota for my college kids. Got all Toyota service records since 2012 from my local dealership.

I purchased a Factory Extra Care warranty through Jerry Johnson at Midwest Super Store this past November. He was great to work with...smooth experience, unbeatable price, excellent customer service.

I called around several dealerships and nobody could come close to Jerry's offered price. Purchased a 7/100K through him.

Consumer reports article as I remember was good with folks purchasing vehicle extended warranties so long as you know (read the fine print) the details, such as who does the work, using aftermarket or factory parts, etc...

36 months/36,000 miles (all components other than normal wear and maintenance items). *



Powertrain Coverage

60 months/60,000 miles (engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel-drive system, rear-wheel drive, seatbelts and airbags). *



Rust-Through Coverage

60 months/unlimited miles (corrosion perforation of sheet metal). *

I ended up buying the 10 year / 125k from Troy at Toyota of Greenfield. Prices were same as Jerry Johnson only difference is Troy does not charge a fee for credit card payments. This was his pricing as of 1/2024:

Can you purchase these warrantys if your the 2nd owner still within the 3/36? Some say you have to buy at time of purchase.

Does anyone know if the toyota's plan can be sold to California residents by a seller from outside of CA?

From a Ford forum I am on, I was told that larger dealers that sell ford ESP are no longer offering them to people with CA addresses starting 3/1/2023. I wondered if Toyota Ex. Care somehow is able to get around that.

Troy and Jerry had basically the same pricing. Only difference was Troy did not add a fee if using a credit card.

 

As long as you are still under 36k miles and within 36 months original in service date, you are good to go and can purchase from any dealer.

 

Not sure. I’ve only heard of people in FL having issues.
