Currently at the shop getting my new style TRD Pro wheels put on my 2020 SR5P. Guy comes back and says there's an issue and we go back and he shows me how the wheel won't seat with the front hub dust cap on but does seat fine with it off. I told him to leave it off and that my center caps will cover it when they hopefully arrive this week.

Now I'm wondering, is there a problem with this? Are there different part # dust caps that work for the newer TRD Pro wheels that I should pick up? Thanks.

id say dust caps are there for a reason. I personally, would not run my 4runner without it

The wheel wouldn't seat with it on. I'm wondering if the part changed a bit. Once it was off it seated perfectly

sounds like a wheel issue not being correct for the 4runner. Hopefully someone with your rims will weigh in on this thread

Yeah...That's a bad idea. The center bore on those wheels must be slightly different. I'd start looking into that before risking potentially expensive damage.

Yeah I'm kinda at a loss. I remember reading threads about the impossible to find new center caps and seeing people with the new style wheels on and seeing the front hub in the middle.

Why not return the wheels due to non-fitment? If they don't fit, they don't fit. There's plenty of nice wheels that do.

Did you change anything on the front? It looks like maybe new rotors? Or did you have them resurfaced?

I’ll go back to the Toyota dealership and have one of their techs look at

Hub bore should be 106.1mm. Something's off. Especially since the rears fit. 4Runners are hubcentric. Any wheel with a 106.1mm bore should fit with no modifications. Since the rotors look either new or resurfaced, I would question the dealer on that. Making sure the wheels have the correct bore of course.

rears won’t be a problem because there’s no dust cap.

Hey reach out to one of these members looks like he’s got the same rim and on a 2021. Maybe he can assist to see what he has underneath the rim as far as the dust cap design

Ok went out and felt where the hub/wheel meet. It feels seamless. No gaps or anything. Completely aligned.

The grease cap looked to fit OVER the hub when they took off my SR5 wheels. That's why I'm wondering if there is a new grease cap that fits differently

If I remember correctly, the plastic cap pops into the new pro wheels from the back. Unlike the older pro wheel where the cap pops on from the front. Thus, you have to remove the wheel to install the cap.

I don’t know if this is related to your issue.

Here is what I was told was the problem. This flange wouldn't let it seat correctly.

I also called the dealership I bought them from and they said call back Monday when their lead tech is in.

That flange should be the same diameter as the bore on the hub. Again, something changed either on the wheels or the hub. Hope you can get it sorted out on Monday.

I posted in the other thread but I have a 2021 ORP with these same wheels and they fit with zero issues, run them for over 30,000km. I went out and took a picture of my hubs. They currently have 17" FJ Cruiser steel winter wheels on but you can see the dust cap and hub which have zero issues accepting the new style TRD Pro wheels.

Nice. Thanks. I would have done the same, except I have center caps on my wheels that prevent me from seeing the hubs unless I remove the wheel.

Heading to my local dealership for them to take a look at as they are unsure of what the issue could be.

Just spitballing but you said you bought it CPO, could it previously have had the hubs replaced with non oem for some reason?

Often when they are removed, the chiseling on the edge damages the dust caps. Perhaps they got bent up a little and no longer fit within the original diameter? Not a bad idea to buy a few extras - I carry spares so that if I punch through the caps when making a trail repair, I can just use a new one if needed.
