No OTD please. No idea what your TTL situation is nor info on trade in. Just the discounted MSRP is comparable

This is another very valid point that I eventually came to. I felt like I would just be gambling to find another vehicle with the same options and at a better price. Also the family needed a new car end 2019, and no way was I going to deal with that craziness.

A final note, if anyone reads this and is looking to purchase a 4runner. Make sure you utilize the 4runner build sheet 4Runner_Allocation_Sheet.xlsx - Google Sheets and don't be afraid of purchasing out of your area. The wife and I are making it a little mini-vacation/road trip.

I just bought a 2024 Underground ORP with kdss, mtm, and sunroof. I did a lot of research with dealers nationwide before settling on a dealer in Idaho. I found the best prices in Oregon, Idaho, Las Vegas, Texas and Florida. The problem is with port add ons, like the SW package ordered on all Florida 4runners which added predator steps and other unwanted accessories to every new t4r. Las Vegas had a dealer with good discounts in the mid 3000 range but their doc fee is nearly 700. Some Oregon dealers have great prices, but they add a weird new tax called privilege tax. I ended up purchasing mine in Idaho with a 200 doc fee and no added junk. It is always about the out the door price, but difficult to get most dealers to give you that on phone or online. For leonardfrann, the discount off MSRP was over 4000 on my deal, but I still believe the otd price is the most relevant.

I was considering a SR5P out of state and they were only giving $1k off Msrp on a 2023 model year. Then we’re going to charge a doc fee of $500 for registration and I’d have to pay in MI when I bring it back. Crazy

Out of state purchases can present a unique challenge, depending on the MVD tax laws in certain states. I've read horror stories from out of state buyers who spent months dealing with in state vs. out of state sales tax and registration fees. Best to have all those ducks in a row prior to purchase.

Totally agree...that's why we bought our Toyotas in VA and registered them in NC (I have a house in NC). IIRC, VA bases their sales tax on the topline amount (i.e. starting price), where NC bases theirs on the bottom line (net price after trade-in, discounts, etc). Even if the sales tax rates were the same, the difference in tax between topline and bottom line figures could be significant.
