If you want to be a rarity in the 4R world, leave your Limited COMPLETELY stock, and I mean NOTHING added or changed to how it came off the factory floor...kinda like owning a Harley, can't be done...:)

The only thing added to mine since I picked it up from the dealer is Nightshade (all black) running boards and mud guards. But both the running boards and mudguards are Toyota OEM parts - does that count as COMPLETELY stock? I guess not since these were not put on at the factory. Most of the 4Runners come with other stuff that is not put on at the factory either. Mine came with floor and cargo tray liners, paint protection film, roof rack cross bars, and door edge guards that were all port installed options. If those make it not COMPLETELY stock because they are not factory installed options - I would venture that it would be hard to find a COMPLETELY stock 4Runner at any dealer.

By "stock" I mean as delivered by the dealer, so factory options and port-installed options, maybe even dealer-installed options would meet my definition of "stock" (as long as it's listed on the window sticker).

Yep - I'm out then. Even though my running boards and mud guards were installed by a Toyota dealer - it was not the dealer I bought and took possession of the vehicle from. And these options were not on the window sticker. Under those conditions I think it would be really difficult to find someone with a "stock" 4Runner.

Running boards and mud flaps do not kick any 4R out of the "completely stock" category. If it could have come from a dealer that way, it can be considered stock. Non-stock includes things like suspension, sliders, bumpers, roof racks, ladders and other aftermarket parts that add to the vehicle or replace stock items, like head/tail/fog lights, etc.

If it came from the dealer that way at the time of delivery, then I'd consider it stock, as long as it's factory parts. I've seen a bunch of full-size trucks that have dealer-added lift kits, tires/wheels, etc., that don't use factory parts, so I don't consider those "stock". Once you leave the lot, anything you add, even if it's a Toyota part, to me isn't stock anymore. As I mentioned earlier, that would be a rarity in the 4R world, where someone hasn't added anything to their 4R once they drove it off the lot, kinda like owning a Jeep or a Harley. One just can't resist the urge!

Semantics. No one is going to refuse to buy your 'completely stock' 4R down the road because it has Toyota running boards or oem mud flaps that weren't on it when it drove off the dealer's lot. Unless the seller presents the original window sticker, there's no way of knowing.

Well - I don't think the context was whether it was stock, or not, relative to someone else eventually buying a used vehicle that has been modified. I think the discussion was more about there being very few 4Runner owners who don't do/add something to their vehicle. The only things added to mine have been the OEM running boards and mud guards - which were installed by a Toyota dealership. They were not on the vehicle when I first took possession of it (added a few weeks later) - but I still pretty much think of my 4Runner as being completely stock - even though it has a couple of dealer installed options on it. Why would door edge guards or roof rack cross rails be "stock" options just because they were installed at the port before I took possession of the vehicle. The running boards and mud guards are options I would have ordered the vehicle with if I could have. To me - it is 100% stock - nothing but OEM Toyota parts on it. My only point is that I think I would fall into the (perhaps small) category of 4Runner owners who have not modified their 4Runner at all. Unless you consider adding OEM dealer installed running boards and mudguards "modifying" it - which I do not.

Surprised you're going down versus up to sum 26" baller rims yo :D if you like some of the OEM Toyota designs, check out FN wheels. I typically don't like aftermarket wheels on my cars anymore, only OEM options from other models that work, but they changed my mind. They know what they're talking about, prices are fair, and the wheels look awesome.

My favorite Toyota wheel of all time is the TRD beadlock wheel that came with the first Tacoma TRD Pro (and some TRD FJ Cruiser models?). Unfortunately, that 16" wheel doesn't clear on the 5th gen. Saw FN wheels makes a replica in 17" and went with those (overlander spec B) for my summer wheel/tire setup after speaking to them over the phone. Can't wait to get them on.

Wow, that looks awesome! I've seen the rock warrior wheels on a red 5th gen before and honestly did not like the look. But they look so cool in your color/tire combo.

Thanks, I wish I still had them. Replaced them with Methods 701s, zero offset. If they were a tad wider I would have kept them.

I have 2011 Limited with 20" stock wheels and my winter Blizzaks on them and 17" ORP with Wildpeaks in 265/70 stock size. I have a tad bit of rubbing in the liner full lock backing up. I will heat up the liner and push it in when I put them back on after winter is over. I will say the ride and steering feel is drastically different with the Wildpeaks. It's less responsive, softer and just not as nice as the 20's feel on the freeway. Something you have to get use to. Never having an aggressive tire like the Wildpeaks it's a big change.[IMG]

Yes and yes...I have an innate need to tinker with things, so I find it next to impossible to leave a vehicle "stock". Heck, someone could give me a Bugatti Veyron and I'd still find something to change from stock!

"Stock" and "Original" are different. Adding some factory parts that were options or from another trim level is more in the "stock" camp. Untouched other than wear and maintenance parts is "original."

@TheGreekFreak I'm with you 100%. My previous three Toyota trucks all have/had non-original wheels, but they are/where Toyota wheels from another truck of that period.

Just went to 17's on my wife's Limited last month. Had a hell of a time picking rims. When she found ones she liked it either didn't come in the right size or offset. Pretty soon every rim started looking the same. She saw these and liked them so threw them on. Went with 265 KO2's. We don't really notice any change in ride quality with the more aggressive tire.

I get that the oem 20" wheels are ugly, heavy and narrow. But I think aftermarket 20s look pretty darn good when adding slightly larger tires. Almost makes me want 20" wheels

I don't hate 20s on these trucks... just these 20s (and tires). I think the Limited wears the 20s well. But 20s with the tires I want - more sidewall - don't work. In a perfect world, I'd find 18" Toyota wheels that would work. But, it seems all the good 18s are 5-lug. I do want to stick with Toyota wheels... it's a thing.

My 100 Series has 18s with 33s and I like them. I think they're a good balance of on/off-road characteristics. The more hardcore 100s guys drop to 16s. See the pattern here?

If I had a Limited, that's the tire & look I'd want. More aggressive, yet within stock parameters to avoid rubbing. I'm one of those who refuses to spend $1200 - $1500 on aftermarket wheels.

These 20” wheels and tires came on my wife’s truck from the factory. I would prefer the TRD pro wheels in 17”.

No lift. We might be looking to get into something different in a year or two so figured leaving it stock might be best. She didn't want to mess with the suspension anyways.

Those look more like a dealer-added tire and wheel package, those don't look like factory Toyota wheels at all. The 275/55s are a good size on the 20" wheels on a Limited though.

I wondered if they were factory Toyota. She likes them, again my preference would be a 17” tire and wheel combination.

Since she likes the 20" setup that's on there, I'd leave 'em and work on getting something else. Happy wife, happy life!
