    Lexus and Toyota sites have the pricing for the new GX and Land Cruiser. Seems like the top 4Runner would probably be in the 55k range.

    I think a 2025 4Runner ORP will be at least $55k if not higher. A 24 Tacoma ORP is around $56k and the 4Runner has traditionally cost more.

    I think you’ll see 4 Runner TRD Pros easily in the low to mid sixties! It will be much more capable than a 1958 Landcruiser with more ground clearance and upgraded features. Only thing that might change this is if it’s not hybrid.

    I agree on the pricing. But why would 4runner be more capable than landcruiser? Isn't the USP of LC more offroad vehicle than any in toyota lineup?

    Ground clearance is reported to possibly be much higher on the next gen TRD Pro 4Runner. I’m hearing close to 11 inches which is what is needed to compete with the Bronco Sasquatch and Jeep Recon packages. FJ250 LC is at 8 inches clearance which is less than a Subaru.

    Not saying the LC isn’t supremely capable, but for rocky Moab stuff I can see the 4Runner from the factory being the better choice. Add to that likely better approach and departure angles.

    Also 4Runner might have more cargo capacity. LC at 37.5 cubic feet is less than the current 4Runner.

    I have a deposit on a 1958 LC so I’m a fan but for off-road I think the next gen 4Runner will have more for the money. My 24 4Runner ORP even beats the LC in clearance, cargo, etc.

    That's because of their half-assed battery location, just plopped into the cargo area. Under the back seat would be a much better location.

    I wonder where it is in the Tacoma hybrid?
    Edit: apparently it is under the back seat in the Tacoma.

    I feel better about my decision to get the outgoing GX. I was on the list for a Land Cruiser, but every time I inquired, it got more expensive and the timeline was pushed farther out. You can guarantee that even the cheapest one will crest the 60k mark once the distributors add on their phone cords and PPF film, etc.

    Red herring. Next 4Runner, LC250, and GX550 are all on the same frame and same suspension, with the exception of some details like sway bar disconnect or E-KDSS. The base LC250 comes with small 31" tires, so it has low ground clearance below the rear diff.

    The hybrid battery is in the rear cargo compartment, about where the 3rd row would be in 7-seat GX models. It eats into cargo space, but not ground clearance.

    Calling it now, I think a basic GX Overtrail with sunroof delete coming in at 68, xxx is going to be the best deal, once they've been around awhile and start selling at MSRP.

    I'm curious as to where it's measured. I'm thinking it's from under the rear diff, in the photos/videos I've seen the rear diff looks pretty beefy. That would make sense, as these are going to make substantially more torque than the current platform. If they're going from the 8.2" diff to the 9.5" diff, IMO that's a welcome upgrade and worth the loss in clearance.

    Now if they're only getting 8" under the front skid, that's definitely a head scratcher.

    And IMO, no matter what the GC is, the GX/LC are in no way competitors to the Bronco and Wrangler (other than price). They're such different vehicles. We'll see what happens with the 4R, but I'm not holding out hope for that one either.

    I completely agree the GX/LC is no way a competitor to the Bronco/Wrangler. Totally different. I meant more the trend toward higher factory ground clearance and less hassle going to bigger tires. The new Tacoma seems to have moved this way. I think the 4Runner might follow. It will be interesting to see tire size on the next gen 4Runner Pro.

    The GX Overtrail is advertised as the first Lexus available with factory 33s, so Toyota clearly is taking notice. Disregarding drawbacks for daily driving and reliability issues from aftermarket mods, I’ll happily take bigger tires for off-road capability.

    Of course, we all know that every BOF Toyota is built on the TNGA-F platform, but that certainly doesn't mean they're the same.

    Until Toyota releases specs for the 6th gen, everything else is just speculation.

    I, for one, will not bet on the 4Runner being exactly the same as the Landcruiser.

    Remember Toyota is a cheap company and will drop multiple bodies on the same frame because it saves them money.

    It's interesting the press render Toyota provided shows a Lexus engine cover on 4-cyl LC250 hybrid powertrain

    Yeah. Except that the 4Runner and Landcruiser have never been the same thing in the same market.

    Also, the 4Runner originally was closer to the hilux/pickup, and then the Tacoma. Now that the Landcruiser is sharing specs with the GX, it would make more sense for the 4Runner to be more similar to the Tacoma.

    But, this is just speculation.

    ^Wrong. The 4Runner and Prado/GX shared the same frame and suspension. 4th gen skid plates, sliders, and suspension parts were interchangeable with LC120/GX470. 5th gen skid plates, sliders, and suspension parts are interchangeable with LC150/GX460.

    4Runner diverged from the Hilux with the 3rd gen in 1995. The 3rd gen was already sharing a platform with the 90-series Land Cruiser Prado back then (and front portion of the 1st gen Tacoma).

    So, I would argue you shouldn't take any vehicle you care about into deep water or mud (deep enough to submerge any engine-related electronics, of which there are already many).

    That said, I agree, it is probably very unwise to subject the high voltage wire connectors to a lot of water and filth that way. The latest generation of Rav4 hybrid actually had a recall and had to change the design of the rear axle motor connector, since it was collecting road grime and would corrode through the wires. (And that was from on road use). Thinking about it, road salt is probably worse than the majority of "off-roading".

    It's probably fine for most people, but if you're planning on mudding or trying to ford deep water, it's probably not for you.

    I'd really like to think that the engineers have taken that into consideration. Things can be manufactured to withstand dirt and moisture. Whether or not they'll actually hold up long term is tough to say at this point.

    Yeah, I honestly think 45k for the TRD off-road is reasonable. I think it's a better value than the GM trucks, because you can't get a selectable rear locker at that price point with them.

    For 55k, I'd much rather get a Tundra. A co-worker just bought a brand new Tundra TRD OR for 54k.

    Well, not to die hard Jeep fans. But if you're not brand loyal and are looking for a two-door soft top vehicle* available with a manual transmission, you have two choices.

    *4x4. I think one can still get a manual transmission convertible Miata, Mustang, etc.

    True. It seems to be right between the 4Runner and Wrangler in features and capability. The removable top and some of the off-road features really set it apart from the 4Runner.

    The lowest-hanging hybrid component with iForce Max is the motor drive unit sandwiched between the engine and transmission. If you submerge that thing, you have other problems (like water into the transmission breather). The battery back sits inside the cabin, so it should be fine unless you flood the interior.

    I'd be more worried about the electric steering rack getting submerged, while you see-saw the steering wheel to find traction, drawing some 150 amps...

    Do we know if it's a full steering column with electric assist, or a completely electronic steering setup? I know some newer vehicles are completely dependent on electronics. I'm curious if Toyota is jumping on board.
