That is true but OP is specially said 0W-20 in the thread so I was going off that.

 

Just curious if people are considering different oil based on additive package. Why did Toyota get so picky with their additives? They're in love with Molly

someone really near and dear to me has a degree in petroleum engineering ,worked in the industry for 4 decades and has kept a family fleet of as many as 5 cars on the road for at least that long, so I take his advice. Get the correct viscosity in whatever brand you can find,and change that $#!+, along with the filter, regularly
If it makes you feel warm and fuzzy to send your oil off to Blackstone labs and analyze it to find the best concoction, by all means.... but real world evidence based practice demonstrates that a vehicle will run a loooooong time with simple regular fluid changes

 

Yesterday I went to the dealer and picked up 7 qts of genuine Toyota 1w-20 and new filter. Today I'll do an oil change along with installing a ValvoMax drain valve.

Agreed, but you are overlooking the huge difference in how synthetic is made and used for high mileage between oil changes. It's like saying steak is steak and doesn't matter how you cook it.

All things being equal (like ~3500mi oil changes on both) there is no significant difference in longevity at all, i agree there. But i use synthetic for its resilience to higher miles between oil changes. Can't be doing 8k+ oil changes with regular oil and expect to get 300k+, let alone 500k.

 

Modern oils have been engineered for maximum longevity and performance. Acids created by the combustion process are the enemy of your engine environment. Removing them at timely intervals is key to an engine's survival and longevity.
