    Post your rig. Oil brand/ type. Filter type. Change Intervals.

    I have a 5th Gen. I run 0W-20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Intervals every 5K. OE Filter every 10k.

    I chose this oil based on "ProjectFarms" oil testing videos on youtube. I'm curious what you guys run and why.

    I would never use Pennzoil, but 5k oil changes anything synthetic is fine.

    I love ProjectFarm, but not for oil advise.

    I set off saying oil 5k miles and filter 10k but I might just do both at 5-6k.

    But whatever interval is set, Costco's Kirkland Signature Synthetic 0W-20 is going to be what goes in unless I run out before the next sale in which case SuperTech Full Synthetic is a runner up.

    I'm aware of the whole 5W-30, Puerto Rico, CAFE etc. kerfuffle and I do have some 5W-30 that'll need to eventually be used but for the first time, all the cars I deal with take the same oil so that makes it simple for me.

    Pretty sure TGMO is rebranded Mobil1. I believe it does rate pretty highly on petroleum quality institute of America.

    Pennzoil used to get a lot of hate but their oil rates fairly high nowadays.

    Just curious what brands test the best and if you guys have a reason to stick with a certain type/ brand.

    To be serious, so far I've used Mobil 1 and Toyota filter at 5k mile intervals (except for the first one at 1k miles). While I'm at it, I grease the zerks, rotate the tires, check the coolant, brake fluid, power steering, and washer fluid levels, inspect the air filters, check the tire pressure, wash and wax. There's probably something I'm forgetting - I always check against the maintenance checklist. (Oh yeah, look at the brakes and the tire tread depth).

    I don't know which one has the most, but Toyota oil is Mobil 1 with a ton of moly added to it (787ppm).

    It's not a monetary decision it's more of a time constraint.
    At 5K I dump the oil in my garage and change it. I don't lift the truck up or do any inspection really. Just a five minute oil change.
    At 10K I change oil, oil filter, check all fluids, rotate tires, and lubricate prop shafts.
    This^ This is exactly why I'm considering using it. I mispoke earlier in this thread. I claimed that TGMO is Mobil 1 but I did some more research. Turns out TGMO is Mobil 1 with a Toyota spec'd additive package. This additive package has a lot more molly than PUP (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum)

    I may change to TGMO specifically for the molly additive.

    Walmart brand, 5K intervals due to the way I abuse it. I'd do 10K if it was all highway driving.


    I think it's a special formula made for Toyota by ExxonMobil.

    So this topic really sparked my interest because my Mother just bought a 2024 4Runner TRD ORP. It has about 10 miles on it. I was spending time in her passenger seat showing her how the off road gadgets worked. Long story short I noticed her rig makes very little valvetrain noise compared to mine. I'm only at 30k miles but I drive this thing pretty hard. Its been to 9 states now with a lot of off roading. I'm not easy on it by any means. With that said I was curious about better quality oils so I can squeeze as much life out of this rig as possible.

    I use Kirkland 0w-20 with OEM filters at 5k intervals for both. I also try and record all services on the Toyota Owner's website, and the information is tied to the Vin.

    Blackstone Labs says “oil is oil” (in their FAQs if you want to see for yourself). Which is to say there is little to no significant difference between oils as long as the one you use meets the manufacturer’s specs for your vehicle. You might feel better spending more but the engine doesn’t care.

    If you want to use TGMO, make sure you get it from the stealership. I wouldn't trust online ones

    I respectfully disagree. Of course there is a difference but I said no significant difference. People get 500K miles from these trucks and there’s no way they’re all using synthetic. We can agree that 500K miles is far above the average life expectancy of a vehicle, so I stick by the statement that there is no significant difference b/c that outcome is not dependent on using synthetic.

    Most synthetic oils are very comparable. Although, different additive packages might be worth paying a couple dollars more imo.

    I've seen solid lifter engines (granted this is a very different design) fail because the customer did not use a zinc (ZDDP) additive. I'm curious why Toyota spec'd out their version of Mobil1 with so much trinuclear molly. I'm curious if they saw something during their engine testing.
