I am searching for a fix for my 2016 Runner TR5. Both passenger and driver carpets are wet.

I’ve checked the sunroof holes which all drain correctly.

I did have a new windshield put in and have drenched it in water and can’t seem to see any water trickling on the inside.

Is there any chance water is some how getting in through pinch welds or through the wheel wells? I’ve read that 4R’s have this problem.

Welcome to the forum Allen, my first guess would be the windshield, i have never heard of this pinch weld problem on 4-Runners.

You have plugged drains in your sunroof.

They plug at the bottom of the drain lines because some genius in Japan decided to put an X shaped fitting on the end of the lines. That effectively reduces the drain diameter to about 1/8 in.

Smutz accumulates there and blocks the drain. Monofilament line passes right through the smutz like the drain is open but it's not. Chased the problem for months. Finally gave up, took it to my glass guy, thinking it HAD to be the recent windshield R&R.

He proved the windshield.. Then he pulled the trim panels under the dash and checked the ends of the drains. Problem found & fixed.

My prob was exactly like yours... My money's on clogged drains.

    Easily prove your windshield.

Dry your carpet w/ a fan, making sure it is COMPLETELY dry.

Use a hose to spray a STRONG stream over the edges of the glass. Keep it up for 10 min or so. Don't get water near the sunroof.

Now,wait an hour or two. Is your carpet wet? I got a sawbuck says it's your drains...

Blue Scott's paper towels are great at showing moisture. Put some down on the carpet and see if you get any drips using Shorty's post above.

DO NOT blow air into the drains. The plastic tube will come off it's connector and then you be be like Billy Sue the morning after prom...

Hoping you got it fixed OP. Know this is a bit of an old post, but posted a question regarding wet floor mats (mainly backseat passenger floor mats & underneath driver and passenger seats). I didn't see any water spots in the interior roof of cabin. Could it still be plugged drains? I did install a sherpa rack about a month back, but the rubber mounts seem pretty solid.

I’ve been chasing a water leak for about a year now (socal so it only rains during fallwinter) and may have found the source. Check your rear cargo area for wetness. For me it seems like water is getting past the hatch seal and working its way to the front and rear passenger areas but mostly the front since these sit sink bug from the factory. My sunroof drains and evaporator drain are not plugged.

You wouldn’t see any water spots on the interior because the bottom of your drain tubes are clogged.
