Should I upgrade my ‘23 TRD Pro?

I really wanted the last 4Runner for this current model. I jumped the gun and bought last year. Does it make any sense to upgrade to the ‘24 from the ‘23? I know they are the same. But I’be wanted the last year of the model…. Thoughts on whether it is worth it? Considering resale and general value of just having the last year of the N280 model?

I would think the resale value would remain very favorable either way. I did wait until this year to place a deposit on mine. It should be here by the end of March. My TRD Pro will be in the color Underground, but it has all the features I really would ever need. However, I did buy it to keep forever, but knowing the resale value is solid is an added plus. If you are thinking of upgrading, I would consider it soon due to the fact that as soon as the build begins, people look to put a deposit to hold one. I was fortunate to find a dealer who does not increase the price above MSRP. Good luck whatever you decide.

I feel very fortunate we get to be concerned about 1st world problems.

They will likely have close to the same value 5 years from now. I think it's safe to assume you're going to lose money selling the 23 and buying a 24 so monetarily it doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure what would make it an upgrade, except being newer. How long are you considering keeping what you end up with? I suspect the cost of switching will eat up whatever extra resale value a final-year model will have.

And… we are sure the 2024 is the last year? I thought the same was said about the 2023, and 2022. And so on.

I don’t think it makes any sense to exchange. What a silly loss of money no?

I’ve never seen a 2009 S2000 CR be any cheaper or more expensive than a 2008 S2000CR, the driving factors end up being a lot of other conditions.

    No good reason to.

A '24 will be insignificantly more valuable than a '23.

And the value of the 5th gen will not jump up when the 6th gen comes out. They've made 1 million of these 5th gens. There will be A TON on the road for many years to come.

I appreciate all the feedback. I know that monetarily it’s not gonna be a big gain. I could be lucky if a wash between the cost of the new one and any resale value. I have about 6k miles on my ‘23. I guess for me it’s the bragging element as well as I’ll likely be keeping this baby indefinitely .

If you entertain it buy one in Terra. That would be the only thing setting it apart. As others have said, if you aren't worried about the loss of money and it makes you happy, go for it. Me, I'd just start modding the one you have now ;)

Good point. A lot of 5th gens out there. The demand will be there, but also the supply.

Seeing more and more every day! On the other hand, my 2019 SR5 Premium does what I want & need, so I'm sure it will get passed down after my wife and I are gone! I'm happy, so why would I change?

    Are you happy?

Literally no difference, I don't get it. I can see maybe someone trading in a 2019 model and below to get a 20+ model because of the mini refresh though

This makes absolutely no sense. What's wrong with what you have? Literally the same vehicle just newer.

What a ridiculous loss of money it would be.

I'm going to sell my vehicle, just so I can rebuy the exact same vehicle that was manufactured a few months later. o_O

Man I can’t even talk myself into selling my paid off white ‘21 SR5P just because I want Solar Octane. Just don’t want a note. But damn that color.

What’s there’s to brag about though? Your brain is playing tricks on you here though. You’re fantasizing about a future that I don’t believe exists. How many people are out there bragging about having a 2009 4Runner instead of a 2008? Which is I’ll be more valuable? A babied 2008 or a trashed 2009?

Which one will one buy? A pristine 2008 for $20k or a pristine 2009 for $22k. The 2008 is white, the 2009 is black - same trim. What will be the deciding factor? The color or the year? Or the price? I see people grabbing the 2008.

Now, if you’re going for a Terra Pro, that may make a difference. But that’s a whole nother conversation on whether that’s worth its premium. Etc etc.

Too many variables, it’s a big hit $ for a probable fantasy.

Unless you have money to burn and or absolutely must have Terra, it seems like a silly move. I don't know what you'd brag about either, you'll be more likely hear from people "you should have waited one year and got the new one!"

Plus I'm not holding my breath for the 25 to actually be the 6th gen, I guess we'll see when it happens. Maybe when it actually drops you will be able to get a better deal on a 24.

Good points. This makes a lot of sense. I think your point on getting a potentially better deal is the best here.

I was hoping my 23 Pro was the last year but oh well. I would not do it. Mine is paid for and I would not want to put out more money since I can use that for mods. Lol.

It might end up being the most unique, I see very few of the Lime Rush vehicles around, and there's the bonus that they never made it available on non-Pros, unlike Lunar and AG.

23 Pro wasn't Lime Rush. 23 was an awesome red color. 24 is the lamest color for a TRD Pro.
